The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
Australian comedy film, made in 1994 and directed by Stephen Elliott, which quickly became a cult classic among the gay community. The film relates the sometimes bittersweet and often hilarious adventures of two drag queens and a transsexual (played by Terence Stamp of Billy Budd fame) as they journey across Australia in a motorcoach, dubbed "Priscilla," en route to a performance at an Alice Springs resort, where one of the drag queens has both an ex-girlfriend and a son waiting to meet him. The film is especially noteworthy for its soundtrack, replete with classic disco and Abba tunes. An American version, To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar, was made the following year.
