AbFab, Absolutely Fabulous
British television comedy series, (1993 - 1995), highly popular with gays and noted for its farcical treatment of the fashion industry, drug culture, celebrity, glamour, dysfunctional families, sex, and numerous other politically incorrect topics. Created by Jennifer Saunders and Dawn French and starring Saunders, Joanna Lumley, and Julia Sawalha, the series centers around the misadventures of fashion and celebrity publicity agent Edwina Monsoon (Saunders) and her friend, fashion editor Patsy Stone (Lumley), and the reactions of Edwina's conservative young daughter, Saffron (Sawalha). Most of the comedy centers around Edwina's and Patsy's drinking and drug use (frequent), Edwina's complete cluelessness when dealing with the practical realities of life (like opening a can), or Edwina's taste in fashion (none). Gay characters on the series include her first ex-husband, Saffron's father, and her hairdresser, who runs an escort service on the side. The series was produced by the BBC and later broadcast in America by Comedy Central. A ninety-minute farewell episode, "The Last Shout," was produced in 1996.
