Jotunheimen National Park
The Jotunheimen mountain range is in the middle of Norway and is home to the country's two highest peak, Galdhopiggen (8,100 feet) and Glittertind (8,045 feet).
The mountains are the tallest in Europe north of the Alps.
There are a number of small glaciers in the park and the area has many lakes. Plants are very diverse, with many species flourishing at higher elevations than elsewhere in Norway.
Wild reindeer inhabit the western part of the park, and domesticated reindeer can be found in other areas.
Jotenheimen has always held a special place in Norwegian history. In ancient times, it was considered the home of the evil giants. More recently, it served as inspiration for writer Henrik Ibsen and composer Edvard Grieg.
