The 104 battalion was stationed at the general Winkelman barracks near the village of Nunspeet.

Where?

General Winkelman.

The 104 Recce batallion was established on november 1st 1983 because of the reorganisation of the Dutch groundforces. On july 1st of that year, the so called getting toghether started at the Generaal Winkelman barracks at Nuspeet.
At november 1st, the staf and stafesquadron had already 60 to 70% of its personell. The first fightingsquadron, the Alpha esquadronwas set on duty on october 31st 1983. On february 27th 1984, the Bravo esquadron was completed. The batallion existed.

The batallion was stationed near Nunspeet at the general Winkelmanbarracks.

Who was general Winkelman?

Henri Gerard Winkelman was born in 1876 in Maastricht. He was commander of the 4th Division for three years and was honourable discharged in 1943.
He got a job in the top of the Philips Lighting company in the Netherlands.
As the 2nd world war started, he was called back and made supreme commander of the land- and seeforces which he lead until the German occupation in may 1940.
General Winkelman was decorated in 1964 by former queen H.M. Wilhelmina the great Cross of The Dutch Lion.
The barracks where closed in 2001 and the territority will be given back to nature in the near future.
