The Honor Escorte of the Cavalry is not especially a 104 unit. Long before the 2nd World War it was a habit that Royal coaches were escorted by horsemen to protect the Royal House members from attacks. At the opening of the Governemental Year by Opening of the Staten Generaal at the third tuesday in September, the Cavalry Honor Escorte still escorts H.M. the Queen in the Golden Coach in The Hague. After the 2nd World War there was no Horse cavalry left and the Royal Escort was formed by the Rijkspolitie (statepolice) on horses and the Garde Grenadier Regiment and Royal Military Band on foot. In 1948 at the ceremony of inauguration of H.M. the Queen Juliana, at Amsterdam an Honor Escorte was formed from Cavalry and Artillery. In 1966, the wedding of H.R.H. Princess Beatrix and H.R.H. Prince Claus von Amsberg on march 10th, in order of the inspector of the cavalry, Colonel von Balluseck formed two escorte platoons. Commanding was major-general van Reede. In 1967, at the marriage of H.R.H. Princess Margriet and mr. Pieter van Vollenhoven on januari 10th, one platoon escorted and leading major-general van Reede again. On november 25 1966 the Cavalry Honor Escorte was installed. In 1972, the first Cavalry Honor Escorte acted as opening the Governemental year in THe Hague and the Queen was escorted ever since. |
