Here Is The Dirt On Remington 870 P.C. Safetys And How To Change Them..........................................................................
what to do is if you do not want the locking safety is this.push the pin out with a punch as shown and remove the spring and plunger.insert a replacement older style safety or a newer one as the large head button from Vang Comp.what you will have to is round the plunger head as its ovaled face wont work.or if you have the older style ball handy from an old trigger group use that and it will work.the new safetys that lock WILL ENGAGE IF TWISTED,this is not good if you grab your 870 in a hurry to use it and it does this. There is a cure tho,Take the new safety and look at the wide notch for the detent plunger, you will see a bump line in the bottom of the notch, take a dremel tool and a small bit and remove it. this will allow the detent to sit deeper in making it harder to twist the safety on.the one drawback is this, you wont hear the click when pushing the safety on or off.just shave the bump line a little bit at a time to get it just right.some may have to be taken flush with the notch bottom tho .For converting saftey left to right please see below.....................
For converting a right handed safety to a left handed safety on a new 870 you must purchase a lefty safety from Remington for the new styles.Rem will NOT SELL OLD SAFETYS! which unfortunatley is bad for them because they lose out $$$ in bending over for the new pc way of life as theyre new trigger lock shows. On older 870's  have been told that one can just take the safety out and turn it around but I have A new Express Magnum 870 and cant actually verify this to factuality .Again I recommend using the Vang comp systems large head button safety as a replacement for the pc lock or if you cant get A safety from Remington to go from right to left or vice versa.
