Anton & Barbara Hoyda (Original Spelling "Hojda")

Anton Hoyda (Hojda) came to the U.S. as a citizen of Austria. He was a native of Bohemia which was then part of the Austrian Empire. He became a naturalized citizen in St. Louis October 24, 1876. He held various occupations in St. Louis throughout his life, but in 1915, was a licensed engineer for the city of St. Louis. He married Barbara Schimmick on December 27, 1875. Barbara came to the U.S. when she was sixteen years old. It is believed that she was the only member of her immediate family to come to the U.S. The family lived in the Soulard area in St. Louis. At the time of the 1880 census, the Hoyda household consisted of Anton Hoyda, 29, born in Bohemia; Barbara Hoyda, 28, also born in Bohemia; Barbara Hoyda, daughter, age 5; Frank Hoyda, son, age 3; and Annie Hoyda, daughter, age 2 months. Anton's occupation is listed as "tinner". Children:

Antonia Hoyda (born about 1883). Married John Heckel (born 10/23/1874,
died in Missouri 10/21/1864). Three people lived in the Heckel household in
St. Louis at the time of the 1930 census: John Heckel, age 54, born in Switzerland,
Antonia, age 47, and John A. Hoyda, son, age 19.
Married on 12/26/1925 to Anna Larson (1/5/1896 - 10/18/1978)
