Cape
Bauld
Bed &
Breakfast
|
Located in Quirpon
(pronounced Kar-Poon), on the shoreline of the most northerly
community
in Newfoundland, our Bed and Breakfast takes its name from the marine
navigational
facility and lighthouse station situated at Cape
Bauld which is the most northerly point in Newfoundland.

- Private rooms with ensuite
washrooms. Non-smoking,
individually
thermostat heat-controlled. Large windows allow a great view
while you sit and watch for icebergs and whales. No chlorinated
drinking
water
on site, just naturally-chilled spring water on tap. Make
your stay an
enjoyable one.
- We have two guesthouses
plus the mainhouse. This is an added comfort for our guests because
they have more privacy, allowing them the convenience of being part of
our family while dining and being entertained at the main house, plus
our guesthouses give that quiet and special time away from the everyday
activities of running a business.
- Big hearty breakfast -
Bacon/Eggs/Homemade
Bread/Jam, tea/coffee,
juice.
Or, if you prefer a light breakfast - tea/coffee, toast,
muffins/cereal. Sit and eat
while
overlooking the ocean. Get up early and catch a spectacular sunrise.
- Traditional meals prepared
fresh every day. No leftovers or pre-cooked and frozen. Stay up late
and watch the northern lights.
- Wheelchair Accessibility.
- Available for your use:
Fire Pit. Gas BBQ.
Microwave Oven. Telephone.
- Most bedrooms are decorated
with
Grenfell-style hooked mats, hooked by a
woman who spent sixty years doing the same type of work for Grenfell
Handicrafts
and the Grenfell Mission at St. Anthony.
- Accomodations per night
from $50 and up..
- Take a boat tour - great
prices!!. When
the icebergs
leave their nest in Baffin Bay, they have no choice but to follow the
Labrador
Current to the northern-most tip of Newfoundland. Cape
Bauld is the first to see these massive chunks of 12,000 year-old
glaciers
and we take you up close and personal - that's if the humpback
and minke whales allow us. These creatures of the sea will treat
you
to a show as you've never witnessed before. And, their performance
hasn't
been rehearsed!
- Free
Live Entertainment!!! After dining with us in a
traditional Newfoundland dinner, our guests will have the opportunity
of becoming honourary Newfoundlanders by getting SCREECHED-IN!!!
This event will make you forget your troubles, give you a new
outlook on life and guarantee your acceptance into Newfoundland society
with our official certificate signed by us here at Cape Bauld Bed &
Breakfast. Children and non-drinkers are never left out.
Here's
what Screeched-In means:
1./
You will be fitted with a fine pair of Newfoundland boots
2./ A Sou-Wester is placed on your head
3./ You will dance a Newfoundland jig
4./ Pucker up cause our codfish is on the prowl
5./ You'll learn our
language very quickly
6./ A stiff drink will make you
dance again
7./ An official certificate is
yours for framing.
|
- All our guests can then sit back and
relax
while enjoying an evening of singing
and storytelling -
depending
on the work schedule of our resident published author and recording
artist, Wayne
Bartlett.

- Right here in our community
we have a working French Bread Oven, built by local people under
supervision from a French Oven expert from France. You have to see it
to believe it!
- 10 minutes to the UNESCO
National Historic
Site and the Viking port of
trade, Norstead, at L'Anse Aux Meadows.
- 30 minutes drive to the
Grenfell Museum and
Interpretation Centre at
St.
Anthony.
- 5 km by boat to Cape
Bauld, the most northerly point in Newfoundland.
- Hiking trails nearby lead
you to the barren
hilltops where the wind and
spectacular scenery will nearly blow you over.
- Icebergs and whales are
often within a
stone's throw - literally! If
you're
unable to throw a rock that far, then let us arrange a boat tour for
you,
where these whales will give you a show you won't soon forget. Some
people
say we have them trained that way!

- Follow Route 430 North from Deer Lake, through Gros
Morne National Park. It's 4 to 5 hours driving time from Deer Lake
to Quirpon.
- After driving for about 4 hours, take Route 436
North; drive about 15 or 20 minutes to Griquet-St.
Lunaire.
- Keep on Route 436 North; it's another 5 minutes to
the
community of Gunner's
Cove.
- Three minutes later you will see a small United
Church on your left. (only building there)
- Turn right on the intersection directly across the
highway from the church. This will take you to our Bed and Breakfast
establishment at Quirpon, just 3 kilometres away.
- Reference
point: About 200 feet onto that intersection is the Viking RV
Park. (only building there)
- Go straight through the intersection in Quirpon, and
30 seconds later
you'll
see the Cape
Bauld Bed and Breakfast.
To ease your mind a little, our town
has only 110 in population;
everyone knows everyone; you can only make one wrong turn (to your
right) - a dead end
less than a half-mile out of your way. Simply turn around and take the
next right at the intersection.
