IS A ROPE
extending from the heavens
to the earth and MY PROGENY,
MY AHLUL-BAYT. And Surely
The Subtle and the All-Aware
has informed me that THESE TWO
SHALL NEVER separate
until they reach me at the pond (al HawD). So be
careful how you behave towards
these two after me.

The Messenger of Allah stood up
in our presence to
address us near a water called
Khumm between
Mecca and Madina. He praised
Allah, he admonished
and he reminded; then he said,
"Oh mankind! I am a
mortal. It is very soon that
the messenger of my Lord will
come to me and I will answer
him. I AM LEAVING IN YOUR
MIDST TWO WEIGHTY THINGS.
The first of the two is the
book of Allah, the Majestic,
the Glorious. In it is guidance
and light. So hold on to the book
of Allah and hold fast to it.
Then he encouraged us about the book of Allah and HE EMPHASIZED
ON IT HE SAID AND MY AHLUL-BAYT.
I REMIND YOU CONCERNING MY
AHLUL-BAYT.
I REMIND YOU CONCERNING MY AHLUL-BAYT.
I REMIND YOU CONCERNING MY AHLUL-BAYT.
So Haseen said to Zaid bin Arqam,
"Are not his wives his Ahlul-Bayt?" Zaid
said, " He said, "His wives
are of his Ahlul-Bayt
but HIS AHLUL-BAYT are those that
Sadaqah is haram for them;

AHL-AL BAYT [pbuth] was and is an
integral part and parcel of the true

THE FAMILY OF ABRAHAM [IMAM]
and the Family of 'Imran
above (all His) creatures.
003.034 THEY WERE DESCENDANTS
ONE OF ANOTHER.
ALLAH is Hearer, Knower.

Elisha Jonah and Lot.
Each one (of them) did We prefer
above (Our) creatures,

FOREFATHERS AND

BRETHREN;
AND WE
CHOSE THEM AND GUIDED THEM UNTO A
STRAIGHT
PATH--SIRAATIM MUSTAQIIM.
006.088 Such is the
GUIDANCE OF ALLAH wherewith He
guideth whom
He will of His bondmen. 006.089
Those are they unto
whom We gave the Scripture and
command and prophethood.
006.090 THOSE ARE THEY WHOM __ALLAH
GUIDETH, SO FOLLOW THEIR GUIDANCE.__
Say (O Muhammad, unto mankind):
I ask of you no fee
for it. Lo! it is naught but a
Reminder to (His) creatures.

Through these stupendous verses,
Allah declared the ETERNAL TRUTH OF ISLAM.
Allah chose Abraham and HIS DESCENDANTS
and GUIDED them to THE RIGHT
PATH--SIRAATIM MUSTAQIIM. Muslims
have been COMMANDED to follow their
guidance:
001.005 Thee we WORSHIP; Thee we ask
for HELP.
001.006 Show us the straight path-SIRAATAL MUSTAQIIM,
001.007 The path of those
-[SIRAATAL-LAZIINA];

As soon as a Muslim recites this
portion of the Surah al-Fatiha in his daily
Salah-Prayer, s/he should be reminded of
Allah's above guidance at the same
time. In other words, Allah has not left
this world without *THESE
SPIRITUAL GUIDES.*
Allah made that PROMISE to Abraham [as], an IMAM for mankind!
002.124 And (remember) when HIS LORD tried
ABRAHAM [IMAM] WITH (HIS) COMMANDS,
and he fulfilled them, He said: Lo!
I have appointed thee a LEADER-IMAM--
for mankind. (ABRAHAM [IMAM]) said: And
of my offspring (will there be IMAMS)? He said:
_My covenant_ includeth not wrong-doers.

So this was Allah's Covenant re: the
CONTINUATION OF IMAMAT in his
ZURRIYYAT. Elsewhere we are told:
006.161 Say: Lo! As for me
[MUHAMMAD],
my Lord hath guided me
unto a straight path--SIRAATIM
MUSTAQIIM--,
a right religion, the RELIGION of
ABRAHAM
[IMAM], the upright, who was no
idolater.

If this is the QUR'ANIC truth, when
did Allah fail to fulfil His promise to
Abraham? Now comes the main question?
Did the Holy Prophet (SAS) also leave
behind His ZURRIYYAT--Descendants for
the guidance of Mankind? In order to
understand this question, let us
consider the following QUR'ANIC examples
first:
3.035 (Remember) when the WIFE OF
'IMRAN said:
My Lord! I have vowed unto Thee that
which is in my
belly as a consecrated (offering).
Accept it from me.
Lo! Thou, only Thou, art the Hearer, the
Knower!
003.036 And when SHE was delivered
SHE said:
My Lord! Lo! I am delivered of a FEMALE
-
ALLAH knew best of what SHE was
delivered -
the male is not as the female;
and lo! I have named HER Mary, and lo!
I CRAVE THY PROTECTION FOR __HER
AND FOR HER -- _ZURRIYYAT--OFFSPRING__
from Satan the outcast.

Who was MARY'S ZURRIYYAT--OFFSPRING?
it was none other than Jesus, as you
know:
006.085 And Zachariah John and
_JESUS_ and Elias.
Each one (of them) was of the
righteous.

Jesus was also among the chosen
messengers of Allah who was guided to the
right path.
003.051 Lo! ALLAH is my
[Jesus] Lord and your Lord,
so worship Him. That is a
STRAIGHT PATH--
SIRAATUM MUSTAQIIM.

Allah declared the same thing again
after relaying Jesus' story. This
applied to the Holy Prophet's mission.
See HQ. 19:34-36. Now let us review
the following QUR'ANIC text:
046.015 And We have commended unto MAN-- kindness toward parents. His mother
beareth him with reluctance, and
bringeth him forth with reluctance, and the
bearing of him and the weaning of him is
thirty months till,
when he attaineth full
strength and reacheth FORTY YEARS,
HE SAITH: MY LORD! Arouse me that
I may give thanks for
the favour wherewith Thou hast
favoured me and my
parents, and that I may do right
acceptable unto Thee.
AND BE GRACIOUS UNTO ME IN THE MATTER
OF MY SEED--WA ASLIH FII ZURRIYYATII. Lo!
I have turned unto Thee repentant, and lo!
I am of those who surrender--MUSLIMIIN.

Would not the above verse apply to
the Holy Prophet (SAS) in more ways than
one? Not only did He begin His
prophetic mission at age 40 but the first
thing He prayed for was,
*AND BE GRACIOUS UNTO ME IN THE
MATTER OF MY SEED--
WA ASLIH FII ZURRIYYATII.*

To this day, Muslims recite Salawat
on the Holy Prophet and His ZURRIYYAT
[pbuth] in one form or the other.

[as]. She married Hzt. Ali [as], her
Father's Cousin. Thereby, also
fulfilling the other QUR'ANIC prophecy
during the Holy Prophet's (SAS) own
lifetime:
025.054 And He it is Who hath created man from water,
AND HATH APPOINTED FOR HIM
KINDRED
BY
BLOOD
AND
KINDRED
BY
MARRIAGE;
for thy Lord is ever Powerful.
033.033 ..... Be regular in prayer,
and pay the poor-due, and obey ALLAH and
His messenger. ALLAH's wish is but to
remove uncleanness far from you, O
FOLK OF THE HOUSEHOLD--AHLAL-BAYT and
cleanse you with a thorough cleansing.
011.073 They said:
Wonderest thou at the Commandment of ALLAH ?
THE MERCY OF ALLAH AND
HIS BLESSINGS BE
UPON YOU, O PEOPLE OF THE HOUSE!
Lo! He is Owner of Praise, Owner of Glory!
017.071 On the day when We shall
summon all men with THEIR IMAM--IMAAMIHIM,
whoso is given his book in his right
hand - such will read their book and
they will not be wronged a shred.
017.072 Whoso is blind IN
THIS--FII HAAZIIHII -- will be blind
in the Hereafter, and yet further from
the road.
***Vr. 17:71 (1244-1245). As to who
are those divinely chosen to
be Imams of the people, the Lord Himself
has made it clear: 2:124.
When Abraham was granted IMAMAT
he
prayed for his issues. It was
said to Abraham that it (i.e.
Imamat) would not reach the iniquitous in his
seed ..... And he [Holy Prophet] has
asserted in the most authentic
tradition that whoever dies without
recognizing the IMAM of his age has died
a pagan death; which proves that EVERY
AGE HAS GOT ITS RIGHT IMAM. [The
Holy Qur'an - with English Translation
of Arabic Text and commentary
according to the Version of the Holy
Ahlul-Bait - by S. V. Mir Ahmed Ali,
1988, pp. 905.
For indeed it is not the eyes that
grow blind, but it is the
HEARTS, which are in the bosoms, that
grow
BLIND (22:46).

As can be seen, a Muslim's SALVATION
in the Hereafter depends on the
recognition of the IMAM [SA] OF THE
AGE. Moreover, Muslims have been *GIVEN
THIS ETERNAL BARAAKAT--BLESSING* through
the Holy Ahl al-Bayt [pbuth] as
above and below:
037.113 AND WE BLESSED--BARAAKNAA --
HIM [ISHMAEL] and Isaac. And of their seed--
are some who do good, and some who plainly
wrong themselves.
It is the LAW OF ALLAH
which--SUNNATALLAAHIllatii -- hath
taken course aforetime. Thou wilt not
find for the LAW OF
ALLAH--SUNNATILLAAHI -- aught of power
to change (HQ. 48:23;
17:77; 33:62; 35:43).
Or are they jealous of men because of
that which Allah of His
bounty hath bestowed upon them? For WE
BESTOWED UPON
THE FAMILY OF ABRAHAM--AALA
IBRAAHIIMAL****--the
Scripture and Wisdom and WE BESTOWED ON
THEM A
MIGHTY KINGDOM--WA AATAYNAAHUM MULKAN
AZIIMAA
(HQ. 4:54).

..... In its wider sense,
however, it includes all members of a
family who form one's
household, even one's children and

**124 - IMAM: the primary sense is
that of being foremost: hence
it may mean: (1) leader in religion,
..... (3) model, pattern, example;
..... Here meanings 1 & 3 are
implied - [The Presidency of Islamic
Researches, ibid. pp. 50].
***2266 - I have discussed the
various meanings of IMAM in ii.124,
n. 124. What is the meaning here? The
commentators are divided.
Some understand the meaning to be that
each People or Group will
appear with its Leader [IMAM], who will
bear witness to its virtues or sins:
Cf. xvi. 84. Another view is ..... A
third view is ..... I prefer the first.

INTRODUCTION TO THE STUDY OF THE HOLY
QURAN
ALI AND THE FALL OF KHAIBAR
Khaibar was only a little distance
from Medina and from here the Jews found
it very easy to carry on their
intrigues. With this intent, the Prophet
(some time in August 628 A.D.) marched
to Khaibar. He had one thousand six
hundred men with him. Khaibar, as
we have said, was a well-fortified town.
It was surrounded on all sides by rocks
on which were perched little
fortresses. To conquer such a
place with so small a force was no easy task.
The small posts lying on the outskirts
of Khaibar fell after a little
fighting. But when the Jews
collected themselves into the central fort of
the town, all attacks on it and all
forms of strategy employed against it
seemed to fail.
One day the Prophet had a revelation that Khaibar would fall
at the hands of Ali. The following
morning the Prophet announced this to
his followers and said, "Today, I will
hand over the black flag of Islam to him
who is dear to God, His Prophet and
all the Muslims. God has ordained
that our victory at Khaibar Should take
place at his hands."
The following
day he sent for Ali and handed to him the
flag. Ali did not wait. He
took his men and attacked the central fort. In
spite of the fact that the Jews had
collected in force inside this fort, Ali
and his division were able to conquer it
before dark. A peace was signed.

AMONG THE RECITERS OF THE QURAN
'Ali not only knew the Quran by heart
but shortly after the Holy Prophet's
death undertook to arrange the Quran in
the order in which it had been
revealed

ARRANGEMENTS OF CHAPTERS AND
VERSES BY ALI
After the Holy Prophet's death Ali
did not call on Abu Bakr (who had
been elected Caliph) for some
time. Abu Bakr sent for him and asked him
whether he was displeased with his
election as Caliph. Ali replied that it
was not so, but that he had been busy in
copying out the Quran in the order
in which it had been revealed, as he had
resolved at the time of the death
of the Prophet that he would undertake
this duty. This also shows that in
the time of the Holy Prophet the Quran
used to be recited in a certain order
and that order was different from the
order in which it had been revealed.
That is why Ali decided that he should
copy it out in the order in which it
had been revealed so that for purposes
of history that arrangement should
also be preserved.

The Renaissance of Islam
Towards the end of 1875 Mirza Ghulam
Ahmad was advised in a vision by an
angelic presence that it would be
appropriate if, following the example set
by many prophets, he would undertake the
observation of a fast for a certain
period.
"I continued this
discipline over a period of eight or nine months and
despite the extreme meagerness of the
nourishment that I took, God Almighty
safeguarded me against every kind of
disorder. During this period of
fasting I experienced many spiritual
mysteries. I met several previous
prophets and some outstanding Muslim
saints who had passed away.
On one occasion, in a state of
complete wakefulness, I beheld the Holy
Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be
upon him, who was accompanied by
his two grandsons, his daughter Fatima
and his cousin and son-in-law Ali,
may Allah be pleased with all of
them. This was not any kind of dream but
was a species of complete
wakefulness."

The Holy Prophet, peace be on
him, is reported to have expressed himself in
this manner on an occasion when he was
about to depart on an expedition and
appointed Hazrat Ali, his cousin, to be
in charge at Medina during his
absence therefrom. Hazrat Ali
was
distressed that he would thus be deprived
of the opportunity of serving at the
front under the command of the Holy
Prophet. To reassure him the Holy
Prophet said to him: 'You are to me in
the position in which Aaron was to
Moses, except that there is no Prophet
after me.'
