The first Napalm Death grindcore demo. Said to sound fast and furious, with a very nice production. Here are some comments I got:
"This is the first Napalm Death demo which can actually be calledgrindcore. Still, songs like "control" still have the mellodicintro they had on the Hatred Surge demo! So this is a great, weird and creativemixed up recording, with influences of Siege, Amebix, Southern Death Cultand Killing Joke. Of course they are not playing as good and they wouldbe in the future. Justin even tries to play a solo which ends up soundingweird. The recording is very nice (compared to most punk bands of that period)and they still keep the Killing Joke/Joy Division influences in a few bitsand pieces of music and sound. Mick Harris's drumming is very raw, sincethis was only his second band, and Justin's guitar is nothing but buzzsawnoise, but very original at the distortion he chose. He sometimes hits harmonicsas he would later do in Godflesh, making the sound of the grind songs onthis release very unique. You can obviously hardly listen to Nick Bullen'sbass pounding, but it holds well after all. His vocals are also pissed offbut not like the death metal roar that would follow after the genre explodedin the late 80's, more like very hard screaming with low pitch. Aboundingblast beats and the fresh sound of a band that is trying everything is here.Specially funny are the original lyrics for the world's shortest song, "you suffer", which go like: "You Suffer but why? Because you arefucking stupid!!!" .
Demo tape. Intersting to notice that the image used on the cover of thisalbum was taken from an Ingmar Bergman film called "The Seventh Seal".This image was also used by Verbal Abuse and, more recently, by the bandCathrsis on the back of their album "Passion".
