Technical Manuals

If you've ever read a technical manual, you've probably come across a page or two saying only: “This page intentionally left blank”.  Wrong.  The page wasn't left blank because you just read something off of it.  This is technically incorrect.

I propose two solutions:

  • Write this on the page instead:  “This sentence (and no other sentences) intentionally written on this page.”
  • Actually leave the page blank, and on the following page write “The previous page was intentionally left blank.”
Which makes you wonder...  Was all the other information in the manual intentionally put there?  All you really know is what was intentionally not put there.

Maybe the statement “The information on this page was not accidentally put here” should be included in the header section of every page in the manual that does not say “This page intentionally left blank”?
