Bills From Utility Companies

What is with the return envelopes for the phone bill and the electric bill?  The checklist on the back is a good idea, but do we really need the little sign on the front of the envelope that tells us “Post Office will not deliver without proper postage”?  Six-year-olds know that you have to put stamps on letters.  Is it too risky for the utility companies to assume that the people who have enough intelligence to own their own checking accounts might also know that “stamps are required for proper delivery”?

What if these sort of idiot reminders were adopted by automobile manufacturers?  Next to the little “Unleaded Fuel Only” message displayed on your dashboard would be “Put Gas In Car To Make Car Go”.  And “Step On Accelerator To Make Car Go” could neatly be engraved into the outer driver's door handle.

If you can't figure out that you are supposed to put a stamp on your electric bill payment envelope, then you deserve to get your power cut off.
