Kortney  Kayle (herself)
Kortney Kayle was recurring on One Life to Live as herself during Summer 2001.
Originally from Ayr, Ontario, Kortney Kayle arrived in Nashville with a clear vision and a tenacious determination. After briefly considering an opportunity to pursue acting in Toronto for a television series pilot, she instead packed her bags and headed South to explore her first passion - music.
Within a few weeks, her path had crossed with a few key industry people who recognized immediately that Kortney possessed that intangible "magic." Kortney Kayle found herself surrounded by some very powerful industry players: Producers, David Malloy, (Reba McEntire, Andy Griggs and Billy Gilman) and Mark Bright (Blackhawk and Rascal Flatts). A management deal followed soon after with Scream Marketing and Christy DiNapoli, former manager/producer of Little Texas, together with Rob Hendon, formerly of Capitol Records and Giant Music. Finally a publishing deal was inked with Scream Music Publishing.
It all began while lodging briefly at a place affectionately referred to as "the Farm," a kind of temporary "stop-over" for newcomers to Nashville. There, Kortney met an electric bunch of artists and musicians who shared common ground and interests. After pounding the pavement in the day, evenings were spent entertaining one another with music and discussing their adventures in Music City. One such discussion led Kortney to take her first fateful step, initiating contact with a prominent local entertainment attorney. The proverbial "foot in the door" all started here ...but soon, the doors were opening up everywhere for this bright-eyed beauty from the North.
"I am still in a state of disbelief at how fast everything has fallen into place," Kortney says. "I know that it doesn't always happen this easily. Perhaps it is just the right combination of fate and ambition."
In a matter of months after her arrival in the U.S., Kortney's voice caught the attention of Doug Howard, SR. VP of A&R for Disney's new country division, Lyric Street Records. One listen and Howard overnighted the music to Label President, Randy Goodman, vacationing on Hilton Head island. Needless to say Kortney was signed on the spot.
Counting Vince Gill, Allison Krauss, Deana Carter, Mariah Carey and Mark Cohen among her influences, this powerhouse vocalist has deep-rooted soul beyond her young years. When asked if there was music around the house as she grew up, she answers enthusiastically, "Yeah, me! I was always singing!" Her parents recognized the undeniable talent, and encouraged her move to Nashville, "now - before life gets in the way of your dream."
Home-schooled and completeing her high school studies (straight A's), Kortney continued her education through correspondence. In the meantime she has left "the Farm" (as most everyone does once they are acclimated) and settled into a cozy Nashville apartment. Although her schedule has become quite busy with writing appointments resulting in songs on the debut album such as "Jump" penned by Kortney, Shea Smith and Connie Harrington and "Not The Girl" with Tim Johnson, as well as recording with David Malloy and Mark Bright, Kortney remains completely grounded and focused.
Kortney Kayle's debut album, still untitled, is slotted for release in early 2001.
