Jensen  Buchanan (Melissa  Bedford)
Daytime veteran and Emmy nominated actress Jensen Buchanan originated the role of sexy tomboy Melissa Bedford on General Hospital in 2001. Melissa's arrival in Port Charles was unexpected to former love Roy DiLucca, and the two are getting a second chance at love.
Jensen's acting career began with an inclination and love towards music. She performed in musical productions in grade school and high school and got a B.F.A. in music in 1984 from Boston University's School of Fine Arts. It was during this time that Jensen participated in the Summer Theatre Program at Boston University and an actress was born. After graduation, Jensen joined the Summer Stock Theatre and toured with a "Theatre for Children" group.
In 1986, she made the leap and moved to New York to pursue a career in musical theatre and to study her craft. Upon her arrival in New York, Jensen joined the prestigious Circle in the Square and joined a theatre company doing productions with "The Light Opera of Manhattan." Shortly thereafter, she signed a development deal with ABC and in 1987, only a year after her arrival in New York, landed the role of Sarah Buchanan on One Life to Live without a single audition or talent test. Jensen stayed at One Life to Live for three years.
She went on to land a very coveted role on Another World, where she had to audition against the woman who originated the role. During this time, she was nominated two consecutive years (1996 and 1997) for an Emmy Award for Oustanding Lead Actress in a Daytime Drama series for her dual role on the show.
This was also a wonderful time for Jensen personally, as she gave birth to both of her children while on Another World. In 1999, Jensen moved to California, where ironically she was offered a role on As The World Turns and she commuted to New York that year in order to take the job.
Jensen happily classifies this time in her life as her happiest. She lives in the Los Angeles area with her two sons, two dogs, two goldfish, one bird and a hamster. According to Jensen, her spare time is spent with her children, "playing Pokemon, taking them to soccer games, and tending to various boo-boos."
