"The Baptism of the Holy Spirit"
Acts 1:1-5
NOTES
Nowhere in the New Testament are we commanded to be baptize with the Holy Spirit. The baptism spoken of here was fulfilled a few days later at Pentecost. Acts. 11:15-17
The Baptism of the Holy Spirit occurred one other time in the New Testament-Acts 10. It is a hugh step, the gospel going to the gentiles for the first time.
The baptism of the Holy Spirit, in both places was the act which place those involved into the body of Christ. I Corinthians 12:13- All saved are baptize by the Holy Spirit into one body. Note Galatians 3:27
There are 4 words in the New Testament, which indicate that the Holy Spirit work occurs simultaneous with conversion.
A. born - John 3:5 B. baptize- I Corinthians 12:13
C. abided - 1 John 3:24 D. sealed - Eph. 4:30
Note: Romans 8:9
There are 4 accounts of believers speaking languages other than their native tongues.
1- Acts 2:1-8 & 3 fold sign from God was given on that day. sound from Heaven like a mighty wind. This was a strong indication that the Holy Spirit had come. Tongues of fire - a visible sign. This was like the giving of the era on Mt. Sinai.
They were also speaking in other tongues. What were they?
earthy language.
2- Acts 10:43-46 These tongues were the same as Acts 2. Note Peter's report to the church leaders-- Acts 11:17-same gift.
3- Acts 19:1-7- Paul meets 12 disciples of John the Baptist who had not heard of the Holy Spirit. They received same baptism and the Holy Spirit. Same word as Acts 2 & 10.
LESSONS
1- The Holy Spirit is the person who leads us to Christ, baptize us into the body of Christ, and seal us there until our earthly body are exchange for our glorified Heavenly bodies.
2- the miracle of Pentecost was changed lives.
