"The Curse of Covetousness"
II. Kings 5:20-27
NOTES
The miracle of Naaman's healing brought great joy to many hearts.
V.20- But Gehazi was not in a mood for celebration. He was upset because Elisha did not accept the gift from Naaman. He was Covent.
He complained of Elisha's unselfishness and plotted to get some of Naaman's wealth.
Gehazi:
1- disregarded his spiritual opportunities. He lived in the best environment possible but his problem was in his heart.
2- disrespectful of others. Had little respect for Elisha. Naaman & God. He did not care about the glory of God.
3- dedicated to materialism.
He acquired a sizable gift from Naaman. (v. 22-23)
He got it because of:
A- his lying.
B- Naaman's generosity
He was caught in his lie. He tried to avoid being caught. He stored his gifts away out of Elisha. He stood before Elisha as if everything was okay.
Elisha had a miracle of concern- (v.26).
Elisha pronounced a terrible judgment upon him. (v.27) It was swift & devastating.
Gehazi lost his health, helpfulness, honor, home (family), wealth, & happiness.
LESSONS
1- a person with great privileges is highly accountable.
2- one sin leads to another.
3- Covetousness will dominate your life.
