"HELPING YOUR TEEN SAY NO TO SEX"
By the age of 18, 43% of churched youth have engaged in sexual intercourse.
36% of these same youths said that they were not able to say for sure that sexual intercourse before marriage was morally unacceptable!!!
Our society tells our kids: " if it feels good, then do it." Songs like "Tonight's the Night". MTV illustrates loud and suggested lyrics.
Basic moral conviction held by a previous generation is not being passed on to the next generation.
The current generation needs to know why we believe what we believe about pre-marital sex.
The Bible is quite clear on this subject: I. Thessalonians 4:3
For every negative command in the Bible, there are 2 positive principles:
1- it is meant to protect us 2- to provide for us
Several good arguments for waiting till after marriage for sex:
1- Protection from God's judgment
We do reap what we sow.
2- Protect the mind from sexual comparisons.
3- Protect from suspicion and provides trust.
Pre-marital sex erodes the trust factor to a certain degree.
4- Protect from fear and provide peace of mind.
In the next 24 hours, 35,000 Americans will get a sexually transmitted disease. There are now more than 34 of these diseases!!!!
Parents: Your rules without a relationship equals rebellion. 58% of teens that are sexually active feel they have never gotten to know their father and 40% feel that way about their mother.
Most kids don't want sex but want only to be loved and accepted.
How as parents do we deal with this?
1- set an example
2- talk freely about sex
3- don't hound them about it
4- eliminates sexual movies, reading material, etc.
5- remove sexually clothing
6- pray constantly about this matter
This is based on a survey done on youth groups across the nation in the year 2000-2001.
