Kings 4:42-44</B></div> <bR> <div> <B>NOTES</B></div> <bR> <div> Elisha and the sons of the prophets were _<U>dependent</U>__ on the contributions of the _<U>saints</U>_ for their daily _<U>needs</U>_.  Tonight's passage deals with a _<U>small</U>__ contribution from a man.</div> <bR> <div> V. 42- the _<U>gift</U>__ from the man.  Such gifts were normally made to the _<U>priest</U>_.  However, in Elisha's day, it was normally not _<U>possible</U>_ to do this because of _<U>appity</U>___.  So pious Israelites obeyed the _<U>spirit</U>_ of the law and made _<U>contributions</U>_ to men like _<U>Elisha</U>__.  This contribution spoke well of this man.  It revealed his _<U>faith</U>__ in Jehovah.  It identified him as one of the _<U>7000</U>_ who had not _<U>bow</U>_ the knee to _<U>Baal</U>__.  This man came from Baal-shalisha-a name that _<U>honor</U>_ Baal.</div> <div> The _<U>economy</U>_ was down and the temptation would be to _<U>keep</U>_ all for _<U>him-self</U>__. </div> <div>  2 Examples of giving in had times:</div> <div> A- _<U>David</U>_______ (I. Chron. 22:14)   B- churches of __<U>Macedonia</U>__ (II. Cor. 8:2)</div> <div> He gave to a man who _<U>honored</U>_ the Word of God.  He gave a _<U>practical</U>_ gift.</div> <div> He gave the _<U>first</U>__ - _<U>fruit</U>__ to God.  This revealed where his _<U>priority</U>__ were.</div> <div> We shouldn't give God our _<U>leftovers</U>__. (Mal. 1:13-14)</div> <div> 43- Gehazi _<U>objective</U>_ to the gift.  He belittled the _<U>contribution</U>_.  But Elisha was _<U>unmoved</U>_ by the criticism.</div> <div> Criticism can be _<U>contagious</U>_. Ex. Judas</div> <div> Gehazi's murmuring was _<U>inexcusable</U>_.  He had kept close _<U>company</U> with Elisha.</div> <div> V. 44- The gift was _<U>multiplied</U>__ when it was _<U>given</U>_.  This man discovered that giving to God is most _<U>economical</U>__.  His gift was _<U>small</U>_ but God multiplied it.</div> <div> This miracle foreshadowed Christ feeding the _<U>multitudes</U>___:</div> <div> A- _<U>crowd</U>_ of hungry people. B- took _<U>pity</U>_ on them</div> <div> C- a few _<U>loafs</U>_ formed the main part of each _<U>meals</U>_.</div> <div> D- food was _<U>given</U>__, not _<U>sold</U>, to the people  E- unbelieving attendant _<U>objective</U>__.  F- both used _<U>others</U>_ to feed the crowd G- surplus _<U>remain</U>__.</div> <bR> <div> <FONT SIZE="5" COLOR="#FFFFFF" FACE="Arial" >BUT CHRIST DID MORE: </FONT>_<U>larger</U>_ crowd, _<U>fewer</U>_ loaves, bigger _<U>meal</U>_</div> <bR> <bR> <bR> <DIV ALIGN="LEFT"></DIV> <div> <B>LESSONS</B></div> <bR> <div> 1- God can meet _<U>needs</U>__ from the most _<U>unlikely</U> sources.</div> <div> 2- We are to _<U>give</U>_ all of the time.</div> <div> 3- Stay away from _<U>critics</U>_.</div> <div> 4- We must _<U>give</U>__ before God can _<U>multiply</U>_ it.</div> <div> 5- God is famous for making a _<U>little</U>_ go a long way.</div> <div> 6- You don't have to be _<U>rich</U>_ to _<U>give</U>__.</div> </td> </tr></table></body>
