My Ph.D. thesis will involve a comparative study of Japanese and Arab cinemas. More in particular, I'm interested in a comparison between politically-involved Japanese cinema of the sixties and seventies, and New Arab Cinema which also started in the sixties in the Arab World. However, I'm still not very sure if I will choose this topic for the thesis (I'm still in the first year of the program).

The project I am working on now is writing what will hopefully be the first book introducing Arab cinema in Japanese. This will be a general overview, and will include a bibliographical essay covering the main Arabic, English and French sources on the subject.
