NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF BAIL ENFORCEMENT AGENTS

Important Information

On a VERY important note

Two weeks ago, I received approximately 50 applications FROM August 1998!!! The Printer who WAS doing our credentials just sent them to us.

It is very important that if you joined the Association between 1998 and August of this year, that you print out the application form, and send it in along with a copy of your credentials and certificate of membership.

This was another "BB" deal. We are sorry for any inconvenience.
On that note… do not waste your time or money on the "foreign language" credentials being sold elsewhere. They are neither authorized, nor recognized by this Association. They are considered COUNTERFEIT
Credentials. Besides… if you need to have the credentials in another language, how are you going to speak to those individuals anyway? If you need the credentials translated, it's better to have a translator with you.

Please check for your January newsletter. Page 2 has a brief listing of those states to date that have laws regarding Bail Enforcement. If you do not get a newsletter, it means that I do not have a valid address / file on you. Follow the steps above if this applies to you.  Breakdown of various Laws

Many of you should have noticed by now a recurring phrase. That phrase is "Update your Information Immediately". The reason for this is: It cost over three thousand dollars for the July newsletter by the time that all of the returns for bad addresses came back! As of this past week I STILL GOT newsletters returned!!!

I have sitting in the office, five (5) sets of credentials. These were sent out within one month of receiving membership applications, and were returned for bad address or unknown occupant. The address on the envelope is the same as that of their drivers license. It's time to clean house.

ALL MEMBERS WHO DO NOT UPDATE THEIR INFORMATION BY 31 March 2001... WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE ROLLS. Life member or not! If you want to belong to an association such as this one, then it is expected that you would keep your information current and accurate.

Laws are being signed at an alarming rate. The leadership of this country does not care about the truth that we have had less than 10 complaints against BEA's in the past 5-10 years! Total amount of "damages" was less than $2,000! Show me any Police Department with that few complaints. It doesn't exist!
Protect yourself! Keep your information updated! Get the Insurance! Keep up on your Continuing Education training requirements! The new training program gives you 24 hours of credit.

Most of the 50 States are proposing legislation that would restrain the Bail Enforcement industry from doing it's job. Essentially putting ALL... of us out of business. The NABEA has been lobbying the various State Assemblies and congressional hearings in an attempt to modify their proposed Bills, in order to protect our Profession.
Unfortunately, we at the NABEA can not pursue this lobbying task as effectively as we would like to, due to the lack of proper funding.
WE NEED HELP! The leadership of this Association is NOT looking to profit from the membership as do other associations. Our livelihood is not based on the NABEA. But we do need the members, whose best interest we try to look out for, to take an active role in the Association.

We are asking that each member contribute $25, or anything that you can afford to send to aid us on this journey through the State and Federal Government hearings. Now is the time to help us help you. Without strong representation to lawmakers… we're sunk.
As you read further, please note that for the first time in the history of the NABEA, our organization has been endorsed by a major Law Enforcement organization. The Law Enforcement Alliance of America 100,000 members strong. Many thanks to  Jim Fotis, and LEAA for their encouragement and support.

The newsletter is running late. It will be in the mail february. I have to update all of these addresses that we're getting.
Newsletter proposed schedule: January, April, July, and October.

Mel Barth with his Former Commanding Officer from Viet Nam, General John Singlaub, USAF (Ret). General Singlaub is also a Congressional Medal of Honor winner, and former Commander of MACVSOG.

Brenda and Wendy, our
Choicepoint Reps.
