BMW R-75
The German army used during the 2nd world war, many motor bikes which
were classified in three categories: light (less than 300 cc), medium
(up to 500 cc) and heavy (higher than 500 cc). The campaigns of Africa
and Russia showed that only the heavy motor bikes were suited being
used under adverse conditions. The BMW R-75 is included in this category.
This motos was conceived to receive a side-car but was also largely
used without. This motor bikes was one of the "two-wheels"
of the motorcylcists battalions of armoured and motorized divisions
of Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS. However, all the units of divisions were
generally equipped with it. An armoured division in general included
(1943) 480 of these vehicles. In divisions of infantry the number was
higher than 400 until 1943 and by after reducted to 170, the motor bikes
y being supplanted by the "four-wheels". The BMW R-75 was
manufactured with 18000 specimens between 1941 and 1944.
