kid bom's 2000 movie picks
These are the best movies that I've seen over the year 2000

X-Men1. X-Men
After waiting six years for this movie to come out, I have one thing to say...hands down, the best comic turned to movie that I have ever seen. Yes, even better than Superman (1979) and Tim Burton's Batman (1989). Bryan Singer's interpretation of this Marvel Comic book has gone above and beyond my expectation. This movie also made a cult hero out of an unknown actor named Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), who got the job after Dougray Scott turned it down to play Sean Ambroise in M:I-2. The only gripe I have with this movie is that it's a little short being only 94 minutes long. Hopefully there will be a director's cut...

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon2. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
This was a totally awesome movie. This was my most anticipated movie for the winter season. After seeing it for myself, this should be an Oscar nominated movie. The acting, as well as the story line, was simply superb. The action/fighting sequences were flat out phenomenal. This is how all those Chinese movies should be.

Gladiator3. Gladiator
I would rate this movie up there next to the great "Braveheart" as one of the premiere modern epic movies. Russell Crowe does an unbelievable job playing Maximus, a Roman general who takes an...unwanted career change.

What Lies Beneath4. What Lies Beneath
Personally, I did not expect this movie to be all that great. I assumed that it would be just another cliché horror movie. To my pleasant surprise, it turned out to be a very electrifying thriller. There are many numerous plot twists and foreshadowings throughout the movie.

The Grinch5. The Grinch Who Stole Christmas
Based off the old Dr. Seuss book, Ron Howard's The Grinch brings this age old Christmas classic a new life. Jim Carrey plays the Grinch, a part he was born to play. With some crude humor and great SFX, this is a must see movie for the whole family.

Remember the Titans6. Remember the Titans
Based off of a true story, Denzel Washington plays the head football coach in a 60's high school that has recently combined both white and black students. The team slowly learns to tolerate and accept one another, but when they return to their school, the cold harsh reality hits them. This was a good movie, go rent it.

Cast Away7. Cast Away
Ah, Wilson, you should get an Oscar (Inside joke for those of you who haven't seen the movie yet. Anyways, it's about a FedEx delivery man (Tom Hanks) who gets stranded on an island after his plane crashes into the ocean. It's a good movie and for those of you who haven't seen it, for shame.

The Opportunists8. The Opportunists
Christopher Walken plays an ex-criminal who is struggling to provide for his family. Along comes his "cousin" from Dublin who tries to bring him back into a life of crime. This was a movie that took full use of the form of irony. Overall, this was a great movie. Probably the most underrated movie on my list.

Charlie's Angels9. Charlie's Angels
I went into this movie, not expecting much, but it was a pleasant surprise. This 70's remake casts Lucy Liu, Cameron Diaz, and Drew Barrymore as the 90's version of the angels. The action is "Matrix-y," but what isn't nowadays? Bill Murray does a good job playing Bosley, the Angel's contact to Charlie. I liked this movie.

The Patriot10. The Patriot
Mel Gibson plays a "William Wallace-ish" hero in the Patriot. The movie, which takes place during the Revolutionary War, was all in all, pretty good. It probably would not be in the range of Gladiator or Braveheart, but overall I liked it.
