My Previous Favorite Player: History Section
Patrick Ewing probably the greatest New York Knick to play the game has announced his retirement from the game of Basketball. Ewing played 17 seasons in the NBA 15 of them with his beloved Knicks and also less memorable stints with the Seatle Sonics and with the Orlanda Magic where he average career lows in minutes, points and rebounds and registered his first ever 'DNP Coaches Decision' in his 17 year career. Ewing in his 15 seasons as a Knick was known as 'The Franchise' and his will to win and play to his best was what he was best known for. He failed to give the Knicks fan a championship but got them close in the 94 and 99 seasons but he gave them plenty of memorable memorys. He was an NBA All-Star player 11 times, was named as one of the games 50 greatest players and won 2 gold medals, one in 1988 and one in 1992 as apart of the famous 'Dream Team.' He played for Georgetown University and led them to a record 3 straight NCAA grand final appearances which they walked away with only one, he was named college MVP in his senior year and then went on to be selected with the number 1 pick in the NBA dradt by the New York Knicks in 1985. To the shock of the New York fans Patrick Ewing was traded to the Seatle Sonics in trade that sent star forward Glen Rice to the Knicks where he would have a short one year stay. Ewing struggled to find his feet in Seatle and signed as a free agent with the Orlando Magic where he had a disapointing season. During the preseason the Magic and Ewing came to agreement where Patrick would be released from his current 2 year contract. A few weeks later Patrick announced his retirement and announced he had taken a position as a Assistant coach with the Washington Wizards. He said that his name and number hopefully would someday hang from Madison Square Garden.
