The Grim Reaper learned of his Wonder Man's resurrection. He then captured the Avengers in their Mansion, held them hostage and staged a "trial" to determine whether Wonder Man or the Vision was his true brother. The Reaper intended to kill whoever lost the "trial" since, he contended, two people could not share his brother's identity.
In the course of the "trial", the Grim Reaper learned to his horror that Wonder Man was no longer
physically a human being according to the strict definition of the term, due to the ionic energy now filling his body. Nevertheless, the Grim Reaper decided to execute the Vision. Wonder Man, however, broke free from his restraints, prevented the Vision's destruction and then defeated the Grim Reaper in battle.

Later, after escaping jail yet again, the Grim Reaper decided that neither the Vision nor Wonder Man was his true brother, but that both were mockeries of Simon Williams and they must be destroyed. The Grim Reaper attempted to kill them both while Wonder Man was having some of his ionic blood transfused into the Vision's body in order to save the synthezoid, but the Vision awoke in time to stop the Grim Reaper and defeated him.

Afterwards, the Grim Reaper gathered together a new team of allies consisting of his lover Nekra, the Black Talon, Ultron, Goliath and Man-Ape. The Reaper stole the body of a criminal named Brady Kent to plastic surgery to make the corpse look exactly like Simon Williams before his transformation into Wonder Man and had the Black Talon resurrect it as a zombie. The Grim Reaper then had his allies battle the Avengers West Coast, which included Wonder Man, the Vision and the Scarlet Witch and capture them. The Avengers West Coast was then brought to the Grim Reaper's hidden lair inside of a large system of caves somewhere in the west.

The Reaper planned on transferring the minds of Wonder Man and the Vision into a

computer built by Ultron which would determine what was common to both minds and delete what wasn't. This, the Reaper believed, would be the true consciousness of Simon Williams and he would then have the Black Talon place this conscience into the body of Brady Kent

and restore the true Simon Williams to life once more.

The Reaper planned on transferring the minds of Wonder Man and the Vision into a computer built by Ultron which would determine what was common to both minds and delete what wasn't. This, the Reaper believed, would be the true consciousness of Simon Williams and he would then have the Black Talon place this conscience into the body of Brady Kent and restore the true Simon Williams to life once more. But, this plan failed when

his captives broke free and defeated his allies. Wonder Man and the Vision chased down the Grim Reaper and confronted him inside a subterranean cavern. There, Wonder Man forced Grim Reaper to realize that it was he, Simon Williams, who embezzled the money from the company. He also told the Reaper that because the Vision and he shared the same brain patterns, they were essentially twins. The Reaper, torn by guilt over having tried to kill his brother, ran away from the two Avengers and, perhaps intentionally, fell over a ledge to his death far below.
But, this was not the end of the Grim Reaper. His lover Nekra had escaped the Avengers and later found the Grim Reaper's body impaled on a stalagmite. Nekra tore his body loose from the stalagmite and hid in the caves with his body until the Avengers stopped searching for them. She then used voodoo incantations to resurrect the Grim Reaper as a zombie, but one that was almost totally alive and had no signs of being impaled upon a stalagmite. The Grim Reaper awakened thought that his death was just a nightmare and that he'd only been knocked out after battling the Avengers. As long as he didn't know he had died, the Grim Reaper would remain in this state of nearly full life. The Reaper, Nekra and the zombie of Brady Kent left for Englewood New Jersey to attack the Vision and the Scarlet Witch at a hospital there where the Scarlet Witch was giving birth.

Along the way, the Reaper and his companions stole weapons from a sporting goods store. The proprietor shot the Grim Reaper in the back with out the Reaper being aware that he did so.

Wonder Man, and the Scarlet Witch's father, Magneto, confronted and fought the Grim Reaper, Nekra and the zombie Kent outside of the hospital. Wonder Man saw the bullet hole in his brother's back and told Magneto, who using his powers of magnetism, caused the Reaper's scythe to slash the Reapers own arm. Seeing no blood, the Grim Reaper realized he was a zombie. Furious at Nekra for what she had done to him, the Grim Reaper nevertheless kissed her as he reverted to a lifeless corpse in his lover's arms once again. After his brother's death, Simon Williams had him buried in a cemetery outside Los Angeles near the Avengers West Coast team's estate.

Later, The Grim Reaper was momentarily brought back to full life to become a part of Immotus's latest version of the Legion of the Unliving which Immortus then set against the Avengers West Coast in his home in the Limbo dimension. Due to the strange effects of the Limbo dimension, the Reaper's Scythe was now able to hurt Wonder Man when he slashed at him. During their brief skirmish, Wonder Man grabbed hold of the Reaper's Scythe with one hand and the Reaper's neck in the other trying to stop him. When the Reaper triggered the Scythe's blaster in an attempt to electrocute Wonder Man, Wonder Man's hand spasms and crushed the Grim Reaper's neck killing him again instantly. Dead again, the Grim Reaper's body disappeared and returned to oblivion.

Meanwhile, Nekra had been studying voodoo resurrection rituals from the Black Talon. After mastering them, she found out where Eric Williams was buried and resurrected him as a zombie once again so that they could both have revenge against the Avengers West Coast for the part they played in his death. Nekra informed the Grim Reaper that the new resurrection ritual she used required the Reaper to plunge his scythe into another human being every twenty-four hours and siphon off their life energy into his own body and keep it alive. If he failed to do this, the Reaper would revert to a lifeless corpse after the elapsed time period. Nekra also informed the Reaper that he no longer had to follow anyone's orders like he had to with the previous voodoo spell that brought him back previously. Eric Williams enraged over his final rest being disturbed plunged his scythe into Nekra's back, sucking the life from her body and rendered her a lifeless withered husk. The Grim Reaper thus became the walking personification of death that he took his name from.

The Grim Reaper then made his way to the coast of San Pedro and wandered into a group of devil worshippers conducting a ritual inside an abandoned concrete bunker. The leader of the group, who feared he would tell where the coven was located, then attacked the Grim Reaper. The Reaper began slaughtering the devil worshippers, but unnoticed by him, an injured girl escaped and made her way into the city. The injured girl saw a police car parked outside of a restaurant stumbled inside and began pleading for help. Due to her injuries, the girl collapsed and died but not before she said where the Grim Reaper was killing her coven. By coincidence, Wonder Man and the Scarlet Witch were dining in the restaurant and decided to accompany the police to the bunkers.

Upon entering the bunker, Wonder Man was stunned by the slaughtered and desiccated. He was even more shocked when his brother jumped up from behind a table and began attacking him. Due to the large amount of life force that the Reaper consumed, he was now almost as strong as Wonder Man was. When the police and the Scarlet Witch came through the door, the Grim Reaper pushed them aside and continued attacking Wonder Man. When the Reaper tried to take his brother's life force, he found that not only couldn't he take Wonder Man's energy, but Wonder Man's body began sucking out the Reaper's life energy into himself causing the Reaper to weaken and Wonder Man to become physically ill. The Grim Reaper then attempted to stab the Scarlet Witch, but couldn't find her after she kicked over and broke the only lantern in the bunker rendering it too dark to see. Unable to find anyone, the Grim Reaper ran out of the bunker and escaped into the night.

While the other Avengers West Coast were investigating another case involving humans being turned into robots, Wonder Man took off alone and found the Grim Reaper in an alleyway in Los Angeles. Wonder Man then confronted his brother and tried to reason with him and offer him help in finding a cure for his condition. The Grim Reaper refused and began to fight Wonder Man. The Reaper then collapsed an abandoned building on top of Wonder Man temporarily trapping him. When he was getting ready to collapse another building atop the dazed Avenger, Nekra's mutant brother, The Mandrill, then attacked the Grim Reaper. The Mandrill leaped onto the Reapers back and began clawing the Reaper savagely. When he noticed the Reaper had no blood coming from his massive wounds, The Mandrill laughing at the Reaper thus angering him. The Reaper stunned the Mandrill by slamming into a wall, and then swung his scythe over his shoulder and plunged it into the Mandrill's back. After draining the Mandrill of his life force and killing him, The Grim Reaper told his brother that every death that the Reaper committed would be on Simon's head. With that said, The Grim Reaper escaped down into the sewers through a manhole.

While roaming throughout the sewers, The Grim Reaper stumbled upon Ultron 13's secret lab in a recently constructed section of the Los Angeles subway system where he was holding Tigra, Hawkeye and Quicksilver inside special robotizing chambers. The Grim Reaper was shocked at hearing that Ultron 13 was planning on robotizing not only the Avengers, but everyone on the planet, thus rendering the Reaper without normal humans to feed off of. The Reaper then snuck up behind the robot, only to have him turn and attack. The Reaper slashed at Ultron 13 and almost cut his hand off. Ultron stopped his attack amazed that the Reapers scythe had been able to cut through his Adamantium arm. Ultron 13 self repaired himself and then grabbed hold of the Reaper's scythe. Using his optic lasers, Ultron 13 not only fused the scythe to the reapers arm, but also made it a part of him physically. Ultron 13 then offered The Grim Reaper a chance to join him in his latest plan, and the Reaper agreed, even though it meant that most of his "food supply" would be turned into robots. Ultron's plan centered on robotizing as large a gathering of people as possible and chose the annual Pasadena, California Rose Parade. Once a person was robotized, Ultron 13 could then control them as an extension of himself; thus everyone would essentially be a drone with only Ultron 13's mind to control them.

The robotized Avengers were sent by Ultron 13 to battle their teammates, but they were turned back to normal by Iron Man exposing them to a special frequency of concentrated infrared light. Only Hawkeye remained partially robotized, but he retained his free will. The Avengers and their now human teammates went back to Ultron 13's sewer base, only to find it filled with more robotized humans, but no Ultron 13 or Grim Reaper. The Avengers gathered up all of the robotized humans and destroyed the lab with an explosion. Wonder Man stayed behind to look for his brother while the Avengers helped the robotized civilians. The Grim Reaper had been in the lab also, and confronted Wonder Man. The Reaper told Wonder Man that he had told Ultron 13 he would defend the lab, but lied to the robot and stayed behind to make sure that the lab was destroyed. He also revealed to Wonder Man that Ultron had been absorbing the human energy from his victims of the robotizing process, and the more he absorbed, the more vulnerable he would be to the Grim Reaper's scythe. The Reaper said that after his mass robotizing of the Rose Parade crowd, The Reaper would suck the life out of the robot and kill him. He told Wonder Man that he would lead him to Ultron 13's location at the parade to stop him, but only if he swore to never oppose the Reaper as long as he killed only one person a day afterwards. Wonder Man agreed to his brother's bargain and the pair set off to stop Ultron 13.

The Reaper showed Wonder Man that Ultron 13 was inside an aircraft disguised as a dirigible above the parade route. While the Reaper was showing him the blimp, Wonder Man secretly turned on his Avengers signal device to alert his teammates to his location. Wonder Man and the Grim Reaper broke into the blimp and the Grim Reaper attacked Ultron 13 draining the energy from his body. Once he drained him, the Reaper threw Ultron 13 into some computer banks which shorted out causing three robot floats in the parade that Ultron 13 was controlling to go haywire. The Avengers arrived and fought the float robots. While the Avengers were fighting the robots, Wonder Man attacked the Grim Reaper and tried to subdue him, but the Grim Reaper was now filled with enough energy that he again rivaled his brother in strength.

Knocking Wonder Man to the floor, the Reaper was about to start beating him again, when Ultron 13 revived thanks to a reserve power supply in his body. Before he could attack the robot, Hawkeye on a skycycle smashed through the side of the blimp and rammed into the Grim Reaper. Due to his partially robotized state, Hawkeye could home in on Ultron 13 no matter where he was hiding. When he began to attack Ultron 13, the Reaper who wanted to kill the robot stopped Hawkeye himself. Ultron 13 then took command of Hawkeye and started to use him as a weapon against the Reaper. Wonder Man awoke to see Hawkeye stuck between the two villains and charged at Hawkeye, pushing him out of the way causing the Reaper and the robot to collide. Due to the tremendous energies being used by the two, the collision rendered Ultron 13 inert and knocked out the Grim Reaper.
