Hey, kids, gather 'round! Unlce Sipher's got another tale of PVC mold annoyances and idiocies!
So, the whole point of the PVC line was to reproduce the cartoon models in 3D form, accurately as possible. And save some proportion oddities (Ironhide, Jazz), they did it. So when it comes time to make the coneheads Thrust, Ramjet and Dirge (who was a cahse figure, feh)... what do they do?
Why, they simply take the Starscream mold and give it a new head and wings, of course!
Even though the cartoon models for those three are entirely different from Starscream's! They have the toys' proportions of tiny thighs and long boots, they don't have the squared-off shoudlers, and their shoulder-thingies slope back instead of forward!
SMOOTH MOVE. WAY TO COMPLETELY MISS THE POINT OF YOUR OWN LINE.
At any rate.
Once again, toy-based takes the floor here, which leads to him being very very dark. The black thighs of all the SkyRaider jets really don't show up on the toys much at all, but here? Whoo. I tried to lighten it up by painting portions covered by decals, which helps a lot.
The purple turned out a lot darker here (darker than the photos show) than it did when I used it on Galavtron. I'm wondering if this is due to being on a pewter figure rather than a clear one.
I love the dark blue cockpit glass. It just looks so nice.
The name placard proved to be a pain in the butt, since there was never a nicely-colored version of the G2 sigils. Only solid two-color versions. Bleh. While I didn't like it, I decided to at least stay somewhat traditional and keep it that way.
Speaking of sigils, the clear-backed faction sigils absolutely VANISHED against the black wings. So I went ahead and used the white-backed ones. I might try something risky like painting over the white parts later on.
