So the way I figure it, the Sam's Club pack is an Energon "prequel" piece, set in the ten years between Armada's end and Energon's beginning...
... in the comic-book continuity, what with Prowl being, you know, around on Cybertron and Starscream being, you know, not reduced to his component molecules. This is Prowl before he got his Spark of Combination and new-body upgrade into the F1-like deal.
SO SAYS I.
How you'd fit this set into the cartooniverse, I have no idea.
There's speculation that this set wasn't supposed to be Energon at first; rather they were intended to be Universe offerings. The Optimus Prime/Megatron 2-pack comes with tech-spec cards. The upcoming Prowl/Checkpoint set has cards advertised on the box. And both sets are in Powerlinx-Battles-style pckaging, where Prowl/Starscream and Prime/Overload aren't.
Hmm.
Any rate. The mold looks damn nice in that color arrangement, and so does the PVC. Despite the craptastic pose.
I didn't quite have a paint that matched the cream-gray of the Powerlinxing Energon Prowl toy, so BLeached Bone it was. Which makes him look rather animationy. The Mithril Silver on his back is also not as blue as the final paint... or has any degree of blue at all, really. Oh well.
I wanted to put the Japanese police markings on his hood... but sweet Chipotle Christ on a zesty seasoned flatbread, that's uber-fine detailing on a very small space. Maybe if I used a needle.
... I just noticed that Energon Prowl's kind of a color-switch from Red Alert. Heheh.White becomes blue, blue becaomes... vaguely white.... well, close.
