Good thing Takara decided to recolor the Dai Atlas mold as one of the few bad guy mecha for their Brave Express Might Gaine line. Also nice that there's a non-toy recolor of them as well; the Atlas Mk.II drone robots mentioned on the card. Gives me something to do with all these extra Dai Atlas PVCs I've inexplicably ended up with.

(Yes, inexplicably. It's not like I went seeking them out, like I did the SkyRaider mold. I just somehow ended up with these. Weird.)

I'll do that once I'm no longer sick of painting PVCs. Man, that long haul leading up to OTFCC has kind of sapped any desires to do more for quite a while. And yet I just bought a few hyperclearanced MSCFs... damn you, Hobby Link Japan, for having MSCF Star Saber (which I lack) and a Capcom RockMan Dash Tron & Kobun set on clearance, thus cementing my purchase! Damn yooooou!!!

(Sickness of HOCH means good news for Mugshots, tho.)

Any rate.

Like Red Geist, the tech is pretty much a direct lift of the non-TF character, dragged into this dimension just because I feel like it. apparently he got another mech later, which I've forgotten about already. Oh well. I can't transplant it into HOCH, so to hell with it.

Reference material was a little difficult. I had a few pictures scavenged from the net, but much like with the EDC Raiden I did, no single set of pictures was really a good one to use alone. One was clean but a bit dark and desatruated (being taken outside with no flash apparently), the other inside with waaaay too much flash. The third nice lighting, but blurry. Ah well.

There's not a lot to be said about painting this one, really. Stock set of Citadel Colors Paints (Takara seemed to like thier primary colors on this boy), nothing particularly difficult detail-wise.

I thought about painting the backs of his wings, but... ehn. Maybe I'm just being lazy there.

There was one construtcion problem, though. Atlas' left forearm did not want to stay attached to his bicep for anything. I think the pewter layer was too thick, which seems to be a fairly common problem. I'd force the peg into the hole in his bicep... and eventually it would succumb to gravity and fall out. I trimmed the peg-edges, and now it seems to stay a bit better. I was impressed it lasted throughout the OTFCC weekend. I kept expecting to walk in and it'd be on the base of the display somewhere. And I'm reluctant to use any kind of glue out of fear I'd just melt the whole damn arm in some bizarre chemical fusion.

(You know... this would look good with two or three Atlas Mk.II PVCs flanking him. Dammit.)
