Normally, the repaints here are of toys that share molds or character models. But sometimes, that's just not an option. The Overlord mold has never been recolored, and it's never appeared in any other colors in animation. So in cases like that, I turn to another way of linking color schemes; the characters' names.
(I'm eschewing just assigning colors based on "they share altmodes" for this line unless I REALLY have no other options. Nothing wrong with it in and of itself... but... well, yannow. Everybody does it, even if the altmode connection is nothing more than "they're both jets". Mind, painting Overlord up as Flywheels might be neat.)
However, since the name "Overlord" has never been applied to any other toy, normally I'd be boned there too. But then Hasbro went and saved me by naming the character Gigatron for his US Heroes of Cybertron release. The normal Gigatron (aka Robots in Disguise Megatron) is a bit too similar to the PVC's current colors, so I went with his powered-up form, Devil Gigatron (aka Galvatron).
Figuring out colors on this mofo was... interesting. Overlord has more plastic colors than Gigs does, for one, and I want to stick by the Law of Gang-Molding. If I color a piece of purple plastic into gold, than EVERY piece of purple plastic will be gold, dammit.
Add to that keeping him as evocative of Gigs' overall color arrangement, AND making sure that if I do the straight color-conversion back to normal Gigatron's colors, he wouldn't end up looking basically just like Overlord...
Annoying part? Those micro-missile-launchers in his midriff. That was toothpick work.
I added a little extra paint detail to his head to make him a little more Gigatronny. I could probably add a little gold trim to his shoulder-wings (which are actually connected to the torso on the toy, but hey)...
I wonder what his PowerMaster components would be named. Scourge and Mega-Octane?
