I really didn't want to just do a G2 version of this one. At least, not yet.
So instead I went with a Diaclone-based repaint. There are actually two different versions of the Constructicons in Diaclone; this arrangement (if I'm reading my Takara book correctly) was a giftset that came with a little mini-diorama of a construction yard.
The other version (sold both individually and as a giftset) has Hook and Mixmaster in reddish-orange, doesn't have the gray bits on each individual, and has mainly-blue combiner kibble. I think the version I picked is more interesting.
It's kind of odd to see shades of the G2 and European late-G1 versions of the molds in Diaclone.
I really, really, really hate painting large expanses of yellow. Unfortunately, the orange ended up behaving very much the same, requiring multiple coats.
Fictionally... I like the idea that they had different colors before they got Robo-Smashed. I also like the idea that they didn't look exactly like vehicles that wouldn't exist for about 4 million years, mind. But there's only so much to be done on that score. sometimes, the G1 cartoon makes my head hurt.
I figure this PVC represents the ten minutes or so between the Constructicons getting their new Devastator body and them getting a new paint job.
I waffled over giving him a sigil at all, really. He seemed incomplete with out one. And even though he wouldn't have that chest-wing-thing as an Autobot... Autobot sigil he gets.
I just REALLY didn't want to do a damned solid-color G2 repaint, allright?
