I really, really hate the Evil Black Clone non-character. Takara went full-tilt gonzo with exclusive black recolors for a while, and a fair few were the EEEEEEEEVIL CLONES. For a while it seemed they'd finally gotten it out of their system, and then they had to go and fall off the wagon again with a black LandCross.
But the Evil Black Clone. Snore-o-rama. Black Rodimus is only vaguely less boring because of the whole "thinks he's the real deal" thing from his bio.
However, he IS a new character, as lame as he is, so he takes priority over whatever alternate color schemes I might consider slapping on it.
There really isn't a whole hell of a lot to say about painting this one. I mean, it's large swatches of black and gray and lighter gray. It's not even like his design has any difficult geography to negotiate.
I tried to liven it up somewhat by adding some extra detailing, like gray flames and the shoulder-bits, which make him... slightly less dull.
Actually, this one would have been up, well, months back. Some of you might remember him being a constant on the "coming soon" listing I used to have on the site. But our newest cat Tigger has this thing about dragging anything remotely interesting-looking off to bat around the kitchen or bathroom. The spoiler was one of those pieces, and I couldn't find it for weeks. By the time I found it, I had put the web updates on hold in order to get the cards and reprolabels and stuff going.
I keep my work/crap room door closed whenever I'm not in it now. I'm sick of chasing small pieces around.
Man. Rod's face looks like it should be saying "NERD!!!".
