The MAINTENANCE REQUIRED light does not mean that there is anything wrong with the minivan. It is only a reminder that SUGGESTED maintenance be performed. On some of the earlier models (pre '89) there was a pushbutton switch behind the instrument cluster that would turn off the light. Later models require a scan tool (DRB) to turn it off, but most dealers and repair shops will charge anywhere from $25-$40 to do this. Or you can try the easy do-it-yourself fix below:
Easy DIY fix('96 & Newer Vans).
(1) Remove the warning indicator grill by prying up with a flat blade tool. (Grill is velcroed in place)
(2) Remove three Phillips screws from the indicator assembly. Lift assembly and tilt to access the indicator bulb. Remove bulb and put in glove box. Reverse above procedures to reassemble.
By the way, the light comes on at predetermined intervals (60k, 82.5k, 120k) and is simply a reminder that vehicle emissions maintenance should be performed. It is not intended to show a warning or that a condition exists that must be corrected to insure safe operation. [from service manual]
