AZ Republicans get desperate - early I lose more and more respect for the Arizona Republican Party - or those who support them - on a daily basis. In order to draw voters away from Democratic candidate Janet Napolitano, someone, presumably a GOP supporter, sent anonymous phone calls detailing a phony story about a homosexual adoption statewide and targeted registered Democrats.
Unfortunately, I didn't get one of these calls. There is at least one registered Democrat in my household, and I had to hear about it on the 10:00 news. Matt Salmon, who, by the way, is an asshole, (see below story for further details) has denied all allegations. I'm sure he knew nothing. Just like Sgt. Schultz.

The United Nations, in its infinite wisdom, has decided that wars and such aren't the most important thing of the day, and upheld a resolution banning a practice known as "dwarf tossing" as a violation of fundamental human rights. Since this is a practice that these people voluntarily practice, the resolution is foolish. As an aside, it's also illegal in Amityville, NY as "Beetlejuice" of The Howard Stern Show found out.

I knew I left someone out... Ruelas, who ordinarily doesn't say a damn thing I agree with, pointed out something I have been screaming all along - except that decorum, as well as Mr. Ruelas's editors, wouldn't allow him to print it. Matt Salmon is an asshole. When he was running for the Republican nomination, he didn't give a shit about the issues, he cared about wooing the religious right. Here is what he said:
"Be with us and guide us and direct us and help us not to falter," he said in prayer, "because there is a war of epic proportions, and I'm not talking about the war on terrorism. I'm talking about the war that is right within our own country, the war between good and evil."
"There are people out there who are praying not just for me, but they're praying that we will be able to take our state back, we'll be able to take our nation back. We'll be able to invite God back into our lives, and realize that that is not bondage, that's freedom and that's strength."
May have been the Rev. Jerry Falwell running for office. But he was campaigning on Christian TV in order to gain an edge in the primary election. Now he has that in hand, his tune has changed.
"I am declaring war," he said. "I'm declaring war on poverty, on child abuse, on illegal drug trafficking, on cancer."
Yes, people, Matt Salmon is an asshole.

No way to "under God," but OK to teach His doings? I have decided to name my first group Assholes of the Week. I am awarding it to none other than the American Civil Liberties Organization, who showed great inconsistency when it took the case of a Georgia school district that wants to teach both evolution and creationism. Courts have already ruled that the teaching of creationism violates the Establishment Clause of the Constitution, but the ACLU backed it anyway. These are the same people who wanted the words "under God" removed from the Pledge of Allegiance, and here is their backing that decision. This inconsistency and indecision by a national organization that is supposed to be protecting the rights of Americans earns them Assholes of the Week.

Martha won't talk, but someone else is ready to That's right. The guy that has all the dirt on Martha Stewart's alleged securities misdeeds is ready to make a deal with the prosecution.
A Merrill Lynch & Co. brokerage assistant at the center of an alleged insider-trading scandal involving decorating expert Martha Stewart is close to a deal with prosecutors investigating Stewart, a source familiar with the matter said on Thursday.
The brokerage assistant, Douglas Faneuil, has been on paid leave from Merrill Lynch since June 21, shortly after news surfaced that Stewart had sold nearly 4,000 shares of ImClone Systems Inc. in December just a day before ImClone disclosed damaging news that sent its stock tumbling.
I would love to be in that guy's shoes right now. To know that I might have the power to send Martha Stewart up the river - even if I didn't take advantage of it - would be great, because she would be aware of it as well. Douglas Faneuil, you are my idol right now.

Former U.S. Congressman Sam Coppersmith may be more liberal than Alan Colmes, but when it comes to the Arizona governor's race, he's right on target. I have no idea why anyone backs Matt Salmon in this race, Democrat or Republican. He did throw a lot of money at the campaign, but he was no means the best person for the job at this time. I was backing State Treasurer Carol Springer, a fiscal conservative, but Salmon won on social and religious issues. He'll have a tougher time against Janet Napolitano, who comes with wider name recognition than his primary opponents did. As a former U.S. Attorney, she also is nationally known politically, and has a tendency to not tick people off with her extremist views.
However, it's what Napolitano doesn't do that will win her this election. Matt Salmon is a registered lobbyist for Qwest - the phone company. He also lobbies for the City of Phoenix to gain light rail. He's still doing this while campaigning. I see conflict of interest, but apparently he doesn't. I don't want a person running the state that has the phone company's best interests at heart.

Now I see why it was so easy for Mohammed Atta to get in My confidence in this nation's immigration policy has been lost. A federal judge has granted four illegal immigrants a 14-month extension so they can wait and see if a bill affecting students such as themselves passes Congress.
I have two questions on this one: Why is our government stalling for time on this? and Where are the freaking parents, who dragged their asses across the border from Mexico in the first place. I KNOW where the parents are. They are in hiding, in fear of la migre. If the kids go, the parents go with them. Period. In fact, the parents should BE the ones deported, as they are the ones that actually did the border hopping, and dragged their infant children along as pawns.
Vicente Fox, president of Mexico, is bitching about our policy on Mexicans already living here. Maybe Señor Fox should concentrate on the Mexicans living within his own borders.

I heard from my congressman today... My congressman must be tired of hearing from me. I e-mail him once a week or so. Maybe that was why redistricting went the way it did. Anyway, I got a letter today from Rep. Jeffrey Flake (R-AZ). I couldn't recall what I wrote him about, but I was pleased with the contents. It appears I was concerned, like most people who don't own a movie or recording studio with H.R. 5211, that evil bill introduced by Rep. Howard Berman (D-CA) that allows the entertainment industry to hack into your computer and look for pirated files.
Congressman Flake, who is up for re-election, is not fond of the measure either, and he is on the House Judiciary Committee, where it will end up. He says it will not win committee approval this year, and despite the act's good intentions, he is afraid of its potential unintended consequences. I hope that others in Congress see it as rationally as he.

Do they give 110%, too? The New York Times, commenting on the status of migrant workers in the California wine industry:
"While 75 percent of California wine grapes are picked by machine, roughly the same percentage in the valley is picked by hand."
Do the math, guys.
