Well, I'm sure a lot of people reading this aren't going to be happy about this. Probably because they're going to find out they've been breaking the law for quite some time. After September 11, it seemed as if everybody was displaying the American flag. Problem is, nobody seemed to know quite how to do it. What really angered me, however, is the profiteering from it. Here's a couple of quotes I'd like to make from this document, which is part of the United States Code (PL 94-344):
The flag should not be draped over the hood, top, sides, or back of a vehicle or of a railroad train or a boat. I see one of these daily. It simply ticks me off that people should show such disgrace.
No other flag or pennant should be placed above or, if on the same level, to the right of the flag of the United States of America... Even major league baseball teams are guilty of this screwup. Watch the national anthem next time you watch a ball game on TV. They get it right half the time.
When flags of two or more nations are displayed, they are to be flown from separate staffs of the same height. The flags should be of approximately equal size. International usage forbids the display of the flag of one nation above that of another nation in time of peace. This one is probably more unique to states that border Mexico. I live in Arizona, and it seems that Mexican flags get a lot of prominence around here. Only after 9/11 did these people start displaying American flags - and they displayed them incorrectly.
The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water.
The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery.
The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever. The flag should never be fastened, displayed, used, or stored in such a manner as to permit it to be easily torn, soiled, or damaged in any way. The judge on Survivor should be voted off the island and admonished for disrespecting what he swore to uphold when he took his judicial vows.
The entire code can be found here. My point is, it's a great idea to show the colors. Just remember to show them as they were intended.

And I thought the Star Wars people were nuts. It appears that people will even camp out for doughnuts. Homer Simpson would be proud. Thanks to Bob Owen for digging that one up. It appears that some Democrats are trying to get John McCain to switch parties and run for president as a Democrat. Problem is, these guys didn't do their homework. The senator is from Arizona, where it's almost required to be a member of the GOP to get elected.

Book 'em Dano! Hawaii Five-O is being made into a feature film. One of the pioneers of porn has passed away. Linda Lovelace, who starred in adult films in the 1970's, died of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

Since the Blogger website is down, I’ll write a review of a movie I watched over the weekend. Here goes:
This movie is basically about a young cop (Ethan Hawke) who wants to become a narcotics officer in LA. His training officer is a streetwise veteran who bends and breaks all the rules (Denzel Washington). Ethical dilemmas arise for Hoyt (Hawke) as well as the audience as questions present themselves as to whether or not Harris' (Washington's) methodology for ridding the streets of South Central Los Angeles of drugs is right or wrong.
The story was mediocre at best and predictable. However, the acting was brilliant. I have always been a fan of Denzel Washington and thought he could “do no wrong” on the screen, and Hawke was an excellent foil to Washington. Denzel deserved every bit of that Oscar he won, considering what he had to work with. Also, Hawke was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar, and it’s not hard to see why. Guess I have to see Iris, Sexy Beast or Ali. Then I'll see why he didn't win. I try to see as many of the Academy Award nominees as possible.
The movie is worth the price on video, and probably would have been worth seeing at the theatre - maybe for a matinee. I wouldn’t have paid full price for it. It’s about two hours long, and is not a film for the kids. In addition to the gratutious violence and drug content, Washington’s character has a mouth that would make a sailor sound like a saint, and there is a rape scene involving a girl.
