Our world is full of different people. From the mailman, to the grocier, no two people are alike. In the My Little Pony world, there is a lot of diversity, as well. From Earth ponies to Unicorns, Twinkle eyes to Flutter ponies, the world of My Little Pony never stops growing.
In 1997, rumors flew that a new batch would enter our world. The fans went crazy, what will they look like? will they have new names? a new look? We couldn't wait. Until, some of us saw them. Then it was like the wait, and the excitment were for nothing. People began to fight, slamming those that liked to new ponies. Assuming that only a "newbie" MLP fan could love such a anorxic, mule looking little horse. And names were called.
Moon Shadow, our elected spokes-pony, being of that group, had this to say about her slimmer figure, "Of course I'm skinny! Being locked away for this many years will do that to a pony." Although, she denies allegations that she was throwing up after dinner, She did say that she thought Dainty Dove was, in fact, bulimic. "She was getting married, and she wanted to lose a few pounds, I told her it was the wrong way to go about it, hey, it's her body."
And the rumors flew. Everyone wanted to know why Hasbro hadn't fed the new ponies the same diet as the original ponies. A spokes-man for Hasbro is rumored to have this to say, "we sold the old foods when we sold the old farm. We had to start fresh." and fresh indeed. Although some of the newer ponies did, in fact, recycle old names, they were a whole new bunch, with a brand new look.
"I like them." Baby Lofty was heard saying at the premier party, "I think that they are like waaay chic. But I'm not going to go on a diet to copy their look. I mean, I'm not ashamed of my body."
"It's an outrage! I can't believe they let them come prancing in here. My baby watches them on their day time soap, and now she's on a diet." Surprise was heard saying as she stormed from the conference hall.
It seemed as though these new ponies had no friends, until campaigns started up, and old and new collectors stood their ground. Refusing to let their new friends be thrown into the trash, like last weeks Pennysaver.
"Excuse me," Moon Shadow stood before a crowd of nearly 1,000. "It has come to my attention that we new ponies, from the Friendship Gardens, are being shunned. I understand that a new look can be a bit much to handle for some of you. And I understand that a lot of you will not be attending our festivities. I only ask that you respect our right to our individuality and not spread nasty rumors about our bodies. Please continue to express your freedom of speech & choice, but lets not bully those that choose not to take a side, and like all the family of ponies. I have a dream that one day, all ponies will be able to graze in the same pasture, and study at the same schools. I have a dream where the shape of my body, and the curl of my hair will not effect the service I receive at the troth. I have a dream that in a world of diversity, I am accepted, loved and respected as the pony that I am. I have a dream that we can all get along and all share the love that is My Little Pony."
And with that, Moon Shadow was removed from the podium and cheers filled the room. The press conference ended with quite a few naysayers out there, but they were no longer going to hold a grudge against their friends in ponyland, they just wouldn't buy from that ranch.
"Well, I don't care what she says," Blossom stood out side, after the meeting sipping chocolate milk with us, "Being an old nag like myself, its hard to accept the new breed. But, regardless, I haven't got the right to slam them at every chance I get. I just hope that things will cool off around here. Just last week, I saw a rally of rioters go into the Friendship Gardens and drag Clever Clover out by his hair. I think it was salty and his crew. They drug that poor boy out, yelled slurs at him, and then beat him silly. He's layed up over in Dream Valley ICU right now. That is an outrage!"
"Nawh, that ain't what happen," Chief piped in, "Clever Clover thought he was clever, and when he wanted to play football with the big boys, he got trampled. No one beat him up."
"Say what you will, Chief, I saw it all." Blossom didn't look happy.
Well, before they went into Blossom's fading eyesight, I was out of there. Seems like ponyland is in terrible need of a fixing up.
How can you help? Make a comment, email me what you think. Since we support diversity, I want to hear everyone's comments, did Salty's gang beat up Clever Clover? Do you think the new herd should move to the back of the bus? Do you care either way? place our banner on your site, linked to:
