Monument Park High School offer a lot of cultural activities that the learners can freely in participate. The activities are as follow: English Debating Society, Afrikaans Oratory Society, Choir, Chess and First Aid

 Afrikaanse Oratory Society:

This society is being lad by two teachers of Monument Park High School,Mrs Götze and Mrs. Theron. The activities of the orators starts early in the year when a first round of oratory are hosted. The winners of this round automatically qualifies for the second round of the ATKV (Afrikaans Language and Cultural Assosiation).  After that a semi-final round  hosted. The semi-finals of 2001 and 2002 were both hosted by Monument Park High School.

English Debating Society.

The English Debating society was established in 2000 by Mrs. Havenga, when there was a need for an English Debating Society. Although not that active as the Afrikaans orators, they participate in a lot of competitions. They usually participate in the Tygerberg Eistedfod and the Interschools against Eben Dönges High School.

UCSA

The UCSA (United Christian Student Association) had its humble beginnings in 1990, just a year after the school opened its doors in 1989. At first it was an exclusive association, which mainly operated in Afrikaans. In 1994 the first general democratic election were held and with it there came transformation in the ACSV (The former name of the UCSA) Because each and every language and culture was equal before the new constitution, it was decided to change the name to UCSA-an United Christian Student Association!

Each year the UCSA presents a couple of activities that the learners thoroughly enjoy. Each year the UCSA gives a change to the learners to join a certain cell-group. What generally happens is the following: The cell-leaders (there can be up to 3) decide where his/her cell-group will meet. Then they will give a lesson about stuff said at an info-session earlier that week. General the cell-group meeting ends when the cell-leader starts praying or when he asks one of the members to pray for them.

There are also camps being held throughout the year. There are generally two camps a year: one at the beginning of the year and the second one in September when they go camping with the other school in Kraaifontein, Eben Dönges.
At end of August some children are invited to the interviews of the new cell-leaders. The new leaders are announced in the last week of school in September.

First Aid

First Aid commences at the beginning at the beginning of the year before the Colour-athletics meeting in February. The volunteers are trained for First Aid level 1. After the training of first aid on level 1 are finished, the volunteers write a exam, which includes a practical and theoretical section. If they pass the exam they are eligible to go on with the course to level 2.
The first aid team are very useful ate sport activities and any other emergencies that may occur at the school. On the first day of school, one of the grade 8 pupils fainted and just a couple of seconds later, members of the first aid team were on the scene.

Chess:

Although considered a sport, Chess is part of Monument Park’s cultural activities. The person in charge of chess is Mrs de Lange, a science teacher at Monument Park High School. The past couple of years were a good couple of years, because numerous chess players succeeded in receiving their Provincial colours in chess and represented not just their school, but also their province in national competitions. In 2000 they’ve succeeded in qualifying for the super league, where they compete against the best of the best.

Choir:

If you though singing in a choir, are just for girls, think again! Monument Park has established its first choir back in 1990. Since then, there’ve been a school choir ever since. The choir performs at different choir-festivals and even performed at the Tygerberg-Eistedfod, where they’ve received several certificates and awards.

At the moment the are struggling a bit because every year the grade 12 are leaving school, and then the hunt for new raw talent are on again!

To the top
