The Lonely Tree

Upon the hill there stood a lonely tree,

The twisted face amidst its twisted boughs

That howled its silent, wooden woe aloud

As though strange winds did play its oaken soul

Coaxing primordial songs from shadowed aeons

And twisting, slipping through unbounded fens.

What hoary planes are these, dear friends?

The carnival of souls, or entropy's friend.

Disorder is our once and future lord

As wasted landscapes crumble into dust.
