" I was taking a fiction writing class my senior year of college during the same period I was first beginning to read Lovecraft. So when it came time to write a story naturally I have Lovecraft on the brain. The result was the first draft of The Betwixt. As I read more Lovecraft my grasp of his style greatly improved, leading me to make several rewrites. Finally, after a few years I had to put down the pen and say that's the best I can do. I haven't tried to reproduce Lovecraft's style in any of my other stories."
