A Brief History:

Year Six:

Participation in League emergencies varied over time as individual heroes were called away by crises of more personal natures. Superman concentrated his efforts on his city, Metropolis. Batman quit the JLA to form the Outsiders. Hawkman and Hawkwoman were only semi-active, preferring to limit their activities to the JSA. The Flash was on trial for murder. The Guardians of the Universe had exiled Green Lantern Hal Jordan from Earth. The Atom disappeared into the Amazon rain forest. Green Arrow and Black Canary were spending more time fighting down-to-earth menaces such as street crime in Star City. Red Tornado was trying to become more human and had been devoting more time to his personal life. Firestorm had to devote more time to college. During this time, the League was barely able to defeat villains such as the Royal Flush Gang, Hector Hammond and the Ani-Men. At a particularly low point in the group effort, during an invasion by aliens pretending to be Martians, Aquaman, the active chairman, disbanded the League. He then reformed the team, taking on only those heroes who would make the full-time commitment. The Martian Manhunter, Elongated Man, and Zatanna were the only ones to agree to this stipulation. However, the team was soon fleshed out by young, untested members Steel I, Vixen, Vibe and Gypsy.

Because the JLA satellite was destroyed during this recent invasion, the team established a new headquarters in an abandoned bunker in Detroit provided to them by Steel's grandfather, the Golden Age hero named Commander Steel. A friend of Commander Steel assisted them; a scientist/pilot named Dale Gunn. After a short time, when Commander Steel found he was unable to take more control over the League, the team was asked to vacate the Bunker. Soon after, the team returned to the original mountain headquarters near Happy Harbor. Elongated Man's wife Sue Dibney also played a greater role in the League. This team had a few successes such as thwarting the schemes of the Overmaster; rescuing former JLAer's from the clutches of the Mad Maestro; defeating old JLA foe Amazo; and assisting in the Great Crisis. Flash was killed in the Crisis and the Red Tornado's android body was destroyed leaving him an elemental entity. Eventually Batman rejoined the group for a short time to help train the younger heroes against foes like the more powerful Despero. Unfortunately, Zatanna disappeared for a short time; Aquaman returned to Atlantis to reconcile with his wife Mera; Gypsy, a runaway, returned to her family; and Vibe and Steel were murdered by the androids of Professor Ivo.
