Powers and Abilities:

As Batgirl, Barbara was an expert judo martial artist and athlete. She used her extensive knowledge of criminology to aid in the ongoing fight against crime. As Oracle, Barbara has created a peerless information network that spans the globe to catch systemized information off the internet and other cyberdata ports. Ms. Gordon should not be underestimated physically, she carries a collapsible CIA-style baton in her wheelchair and has mastered Escrima fighting sticks (a.k.a. arnis, the Philippine martial art of stick fighting.)

Background:

Barbara Gordon is no stranger to fighting a clandestine war on crime. After all, she was the first Batgirl - a vigilante vixen inspired by the Dark Knight, one of his small but trusted team of "seconds" in the crusade to help the helpless of Gotham City.

The Joker, however, ended all that when he shot Barbara Gordon through the spine in his mad scheme to abduct and drive insane her adopted father, then G.C.P.D. Commissioner James Gordon.

Batgirl's wings were clipped. But partial paralysis did little to ground Barbara's perseverance or hobble her dedication to justice. Though limited in mobility, she retrained herself to fight from her wheelchair. A computer savant before the attack, Barbara opted to use the digital domain as her new staging ground in battling evil. With a wealth of information stored in her Gotham Clocktower databases, Barbara began phase two of her crime-fighting career as the all-seeing, enigmatic Oracle, later employing a costumed cadre of uniquely qualified metahuman field operatives - nicknamed the "Birds of Prey" - to undertake special missions and avert global crises.

Oracle's job is to predict the unpredictable, adapting and evolving in the face of adversity. Anyone who knows Barbara Gordon realizes that it would be foolish to think she would ever do anything else.

Notes:

  • Ever since she was shot and paralyzed by the Joker, the former Batgirl, Barbara Gordon has taken up the codename of the wheelchair-bound Oracle, becoming a crime busting information powerhouse.

  • The specifics of Oracle's identity are unknown to JLA members, his/her membership having been coordinated solely by Batman. Because of this, she conceals her identity with a digitized mask of the mythological seer.

  • Oracle's involvement in the League is invaluable, providing information from his/her database, linking communication between league members and coordinating strategies from a distance.

  • Current JLA betting pool has 9-3 odds that Oracle is in fact a man. Batman has abstained from waging.

  • Barbara is currently involved romantically with Dick Grayson, the former Robin and current Nightwing.
