Powers and Abilities: Alan Scott is a skilled athlete and hand-to-hand combatant. Alan Scott's principle weapon was once his green lantern ring and his will power. However in recent years, after retiring as Green Lantern, Alan has started using his innate abilities again. He is only limited by his willpower and imagination, however his powers are now finite and will one day burn out.
Weaknesses/Limitations: As Green Lantern, Alan's ring was unable to effect anything created from wood and only had a 24 hour charge. As Sentinel, his powers changed slightly and he no longer has these weaknesses. However, his innate abilities are not as strong as the ring and therefore can be defeated by someone wielding a greater power then his own.

Background:

After surviving a horrific train crash, Alan Scott found a green meteorite that magically spoke to him "Three times shall I flame. First to bring death, second to bring life and third to bring POWER!" The green flame fulfilled the prophecy and gave life to Alan Scott. Creating a power battery from the green meteor and a green ring, Alan Scott donned the costume and name Green Lantern to bring justice to the world.

However in recent years, Alan Scott's ring was destroyed in Zero Hour by Extant. The lantern and ring was carved from the Starheart, which after the ring was destroyed, still left him with the same powers. This is from having contact with it for so long. Also, his weaknesses are all the same and he is also in the Sentinels of Magic.

Until recently, Todd Rice, the over protective brother to Jade, and resentful son of Alan, showed his true colors, powers and feelings towards all involved with Sentinel, the JSA and his adoptive father, James Rice, who abused him. Obsidian tried to take over the world with his dark powers while Alan had to over power Todd by saying, "I wrote the book on Will Power!" Todd was swallowed up by his own power with the help of James Rice.

Notes:

  • Alan Scott was Green Lantern for many years before learning of the Guardians and their legacy.

  • Rather than reveal their true identities to the House Un-American Activities Committee, Alan and the rest of his fellow JSA'ers choose to retire.

  • In the wake of the Zero Hour crisis, Scott's power ring was destroyed by Extant, which seemingly ended his career as Green Lantern.

  • Alan channels his energies through his own body, no longer requiring a power ring.

  • Father of Jade and Obsidian, twins born to the villainess known as Thorn.
