BIOGRAPHY/PROFILE Eobard Thawne was the black sheep of the Thawne family in the 25th century. Over the last five hundred years the Thawne family line (descended from Malcolm Thawne - the twin brother of Barry Allen) had been the opponents of the Flash Dynasty. They had used a mystical gem to become the villains Cobalt Blue. Eobard was different. He was fascinated with the historical figure of Barry Allen. He found one of Allen's costumes in a time capsule and managed to isolate the energies that gave the Flash his speed. He then managed to grant himself superspeed. All set he decided to travel back in time to after the death of the Flash in order to take Barry Allen's place. However he had not bargained on finding more accurate records in the current day. He came across the startling revelation that he had actually died at the hands of Barry several years before he had arrived. Wally West as the third Flash managed to send Thawne back to the 25th century but the damage was done. All memory of his contract with Wally West was wiped from his mind.Unsettled Thawne used his speed to become the professional criminal Professor Zoom - the greatest thief and criminal of the 25th century. His criminal career was cut short when Barry Allen arrived in the 25th century on his own trip through time to locate another of the items from the time capsule that Thawne had discovered his costume in. In their first real meeting the Flash and the Reverse-Flash battled each other with the Flash eventually winning. Thawne was stripped of the costume that gave him his speed and sent to prison. A few years later Thawne escaped and found another way to give himself super speed. Wanting revenge on Allen for his defeat and he traveled back to the 20th century and became the Reverse-Flash. The Reverse-Flash was the most dangerous of Barry's enemies. His future knowledge gave him information about Barry's private life and close friends. He also became obsessed with replacing Barry and had his face altered so that he was identical in appearance to Barry. He kidnapped Barry on his wedding day and tried to take his place. However Barry escaped and defeated Thawne - all without the knowledge of Iris. He was returned to the 25th century and was temporally released from prison to help fight that era's Cobalt Blue. However he really wanted the Cobalt Blue Gem for his own and perused it to the 30th century. Only the intervention of Wally West as the third Flash stopped Thawne stealing the gem from his own descendants. Afterwards he was returned to the 25th century. Zoom began his most dangerous and deadly rampage when he again escaped to the 20th century. He tracked down Iris and gave her an ultimatum, leave Barry and join him, or die. He used a hypnotic ray to stop her telling Barry and gave her a dead line. When she refused him he vibrated his fingers into her brain, killing her. The resulting battle between Allen and Thawne took them across dimensions and up and down the time stream. It ended with the apparent death of Thawne. The Flash returned to Earth and tried to rebuild his life and after a due amount of time he made plans to remarry. Thawne like the proverbial bad penny reappeared and their battle started all over again. He taunted Barry that he was going to killing his wife all over again. As they raced to the church Thawne had the lead over Allen. Barry was forced to tackle Thawne mere feet before he was about to murder again. Unfortunately the force of the tackle that Barry used against Thawne was enough to accidentally break his neck. The circle had been closed. After a protracted court case Barry was cleared of the manslaughter of Thawne. The Thawne family name would continue on past the 25th century as the legacy of villains called Cobalt Blue. ABILITIES AND EQUIPMENT Thawne used 25th century science to give himself superspeed equal to that of the second Flash. He could run at close to the speed of light and control the vibration of his molecules. His use of these powers was a lot more ruthless than the Flash and his trademark method of murder was to vibrate his hand into a |
