JLA #6-7, Days of Vengeance # 1-5 He was the Lord of Lies, a prince of Hell. His trade was souls, and he bought and sold them like so much chattel. He sat on a gilded throne crowned with the skulls of the damned, and no one could touch him. That is, until the Justice League came along. Belonging to the first band of fallen angels, damned to hell following the first attempted siege of Heaven, Neron was infernal royalty for countless millennia. He was instrumental in the failed coup of Heaven, betraying the King Angel Asmodel and punishing him in the flaming pit, enjoying his succulent prize. When Asmodel seized control of the Spectre to enact his revenge on Neron, the Prince of Lies possessed Superman and waited for the right moment to take control of God's Spirit of Wrath. Unfortunately for him, the Spectre had already chosen another — Hal Jordan, former Green Lantern — with whom to merge. When Neron returned to Hell, he found that he had been stripped of his royal station for his transgressions against divine treaty and had been reduced to the rank of rhyming demon. But Neron has known how to play the game in hell for millennia, and it is doubtful that the last has been seen of him. |
