Albert Desmond has had two costumed personas through his career. The first Mr Element developed from a split personality where the normally law abiding Desmond would be overtaken by the evil criminal persona. He battled the second Flash several times before being sent to prison. While there he encountered evidence that led him to discover the fabled "Philosopher's Stone", his evil side then harnessed the stone's element transmuting power as Doctor Alchemy. He was finally defeated as Alchemy when the Flash threw the stone into space. Paroled from prison Desmond became a model citizen, yet the stone had a more insidious effect and copied the evil part of Desmond creating an artificial lifeform called "Alvin Desmond" who operated as Dr Alchemy for a number of years. The third Flash later helped Albert to destroy the unliving Alvin. Recently the stone has resurfaced and exerted more control over Albert returning him occasionally to the role of Dr Alchemy. Dr Alchemy was involved in the creation of the Rogue Replicant.
