The Cadre were a collection of supervillains drawn together by the alien Overmaster in his schemes against the Justice League. The first team called Cadre was comprised of Black Mass, Crowbar, Fastball, Nightfall, Shatterfist and Shrike. They battled the newly reorganized JLA after it had moved to Detroit. The League led by Aquaman managed to defeat the Cadre and the Overmaster. A number of years later the Overmaster returned and declared that humanity was to be exterminated. He used a new Cadre culled from various extremist groups to battle the Justice League. The Overmaster sprung Shatterfist from the temple where he was held prisoner and set him up to lead the new group. Initially the sorcerer Dreamslayer was to have been a member of the group but he was discarded by the Overmaster as being to unstable. The new group was comprised of three subgroups that had battled the various Justice League teams these were the Cadre of the Immortal (Musashi, Xiuhtecut, Phalanx and the Druid), the second Extremists (Brute, Meanstreak, Death Angel, Gunshot and Cloudburst) and the Aryan Nation (Iron Cross, Golden Eagle II, Heatmonger, Backlash and Blind Faith) and the independent Destroyer. Against the assembled Justice League teams the Cadre had no real hope except when the Overmaster used the powered up mind controlled Ice as a member of the team. It can be assumed that all members of the second Cadre team were killed when the Overmaster's ship was destroyed.
