Deadman is an ectoplasmic entity with the ability to possess other people's bodies to control their actions. Deadman is usually invisible and can only communicate with the living while in possession of a body, unless he is in combat with another mystical force of sufficient power to make his presence known to others. The owner of the possessed body usually have no memory of the possession afterwards.

Background:

Boston Brand has always cheated death. As the phantom-faced Deadman, Brand was the attraction of Hills Brothers Circus, an aerialist who defied death nightly, thrilling his crowds without benefit of a safety net. That all ended when the elemental spirit Rama Kushna engineered Brand's murder in order to gain an operative that could literally walk between the living and the dead. Now a true, Deadman, Brand discovered that he could posses the bodies of most living beings while remaining intangible and invisible to the living world. In Rama Kushna's employ, Brand maintain a balance between good and evil while hoping that one day Rama would release him for his ethereal servitude. But Rama was destroyed before she could grant such a reprieve. Doomed to his wraithlike existence, Deadman nevertheless continues to strike a balance, helping mortals in need and "borrowing" bodies in return, simply to remember what it was like to be alive.

Deadman roams the spirit world freely, bound to neither heaven nor hell, nor any points in between.
