Being through the unique event horizon of the annihilation of all matter within the Earth-3 universe by the expanding Anti-Matter universe, Alex possessed the ability to exist and use either anti- and regular matter. He also possessed his father's scientific knowledge.

Background:

Alexander Luthor was the sole son of Alex Luthor and Lois Lane-Luthor of Earth-Three. Just before their universe was about to be destroyed by the anti-matter universe they managed to send him across the dimensional barrier into Earth-One. However he was hit by a blast of anti-matter energy that altered his physical structure. The young child that arrived on Earth-One was unique, the only being in the Multiverse comprised of both positive and anti-matter. The Monitor knew that such a being could well be the key to stopping the universal Crisis and had him retrieved by Harbinger.

Alexander aged rapidly in a few days absorbing huge amounts of information from the Monitor. Alexander was pivotal in the fight against the Anti-Monitor as one of the Monitor's trusted aides. When the disaster passed and the signal timeline was establishing he used his abilities to transport the Superman and Lois Lane of Earth-Two and the Superboy of Earth-Prime to another place where they would be untouched by the coming changes and could live the rest of their lives in peace.
