Mixac & P.G. met CCRevisited in Karlshamn / Norje, 1998
Subject: Re: We met CCRev.
Date: Sat, 20 Jun 1998
This weekend, my friend Anders Carlsson and myself traveled the long
distance from his home in Uddevalla Sweden (plus, me from England) to
the Karlshamn Rock Festival in southern Sweden,
with the sole intent of seeing and meeting Creedence Clearwater Revisited.
As it turned out, one of these objectives proved more fruitful than the other....
Getting to the festival site at approx. 4.15pm, well in time for CCR at
5.00, I thought it was a bit strange that the PA was playing 'Midnight
Special'....
You guessed it, CCR were actually on stage and coming
towards the end of their set. 1000 miles for 15 minutes?
It turned out that Van Halen had canceled a date in Denmark and CCR had
come on early in order to replace them at another gig later in the day.
One objective 25% completed, one to go.
A couple of weeks earlier, Stu Cook had posted an offer to anyone
attending any of the European concerts with the promise that all or most
requests will be met. Having answered that post and got a response from
Stu, this was duly printed out for use as a backstage pass.
Thanks to an obliging and cooperative security guy we were suddenly
backstage.
Now the scene that greeted us was not what you might imagine.... it was
deserted other than for huge equipment wagons and the occasional
roadie. So where are CCR? After wandering about lost we finally spotted a
portakabin with CCR scrawled on the door, timidly knocked on the door,
..... and out popped Stu Cook! BINGO!
It is now a bit difficult to recall exactly what happened and was said
but needless to say Stu seemed more than happy to meet two guys who had
traveled a rather long way to see 15minutes. Then Doug appeared and
joined in the chat and meet, then the other guys, photos were taken,
autographs signed, nothing was too much bother for these guys.
The strange thing is that after waiting 28 years for this, I am now
struggling to 'Recollect' much of the meeting! Soon the photos will be
ready and maybe that will help.
Anyway, all that is left to say is a big thank you to Stu for making this
possible (a bit of a dream come true really) and to Stu and Doug for
taking the time to meet and chat with a couple of babbling fans who
became 16 again for ten minutes or so!
Cheers
