1959
The group was formed in California, USA, and was called "The Blue Velvets".
1964
March. . .They got a chance to go into studio at Fantasy Record Company in San Francisco and
produce a single. Later that year, the band got the name "The Golliwogs".
1968
January. . .Fantasy Record Company in San Francisco
got themselves a new VD, Saul Zaentz,
and the group talked him into accepting the name that they really wanted - CCR. They got a
record contract with Fantasy and that was the time when their name, finally, was formed to
"Creedence Clearwater Revival".
June. . .First album, as CCR, are released and earns a gold record. The name of the LP was
"Creedence Clearwater Revival" and this LP got much attention and earned a gold record.
The most attention they got from the people living in the San Francisco area. It did not take long until
they got a couple of hits, "Suzi Q" (by Dale Hawkins), released in part 1 and part 2, and
"I put a spell on you" (by Screamin´ Jay Hawkins), which also was released as
a single."Walk on the water"
was also released as an single. Those where the only two out of that LP that was
released as singles.
1969
January. . .CCR got their great breakthrough when the
LP "Bayou Country" was released and earned
a platinum record award. The songs "Proud Mary" and "Born on the Bayou", are released as a single
and earns gold recognition. They where both at the top of the charts and became hits to the public.
April. . ."Bad Moon Rising/Lodi" was released as a single and earns gold.
July. . ."Green River/Commotion" was released as a single and earns gold.
August. . .The LP "Green River" are released and earns a platinum record award.
October. . .The songs "Down on the Corner/Fortunate Son" released as a single and earns gold.
November. . .LP "Willy and the Poorboys" are released and earns a platinum record award.
1970
January. . .The HITS "Travelin' Band/Who'll Stop the Rain" was released as a single and earns gold.
April. . .Their First European Tour. The songs "Up Around the Bend/Run Through the Jungle" was
released as a single and earns gold (songs out of the LP "Cosmo´s Factory").
July. . .The outstanding LP "Cosmo's Factory" are released and sells over 3 million copies in the US,
earning a platinum record award. Now was "Lookin' Out My Back Door/Long As I Can
See the Light",
released as a single and it earns gold. Now was the peek of their artistic musical era and they
became the most popular rock band in the US. With the LP "Cosmo´s Factory" released
in the European
countries, fame and touring became the ultimate TOUR of their career.
December. . .LP "Pendulum" are released. Now the members of CCR started to react on that it always
was "John Fogerty" who wrote the songs and they fought that he was to dominant in the group.
1971
January. . ."Have You Ever Seen the Rain/Hey Tonight" released as a single and earns gold.
February. . .Tom Fogerty leave the group for a solo career after another fight with the members.
It was especially his little brother "John" who had very much to say about everything....
The rest of the CCR kept on going as an trio - but with the magic John Fogerty as a songwriter -
outside the band.
Nothing became the same - everyone wanted to run the group and the disagreements became more like
a baby's play in the sandbox.
May. . .At the time of the "Mardi Gras"-recording, John Fogerty could not stand the arguments any
more and told Cook and Clifford that they could write a couple of songs too. That decision was the
beginning of the end for the band. Results: The magazines wrote that the "Mardi Gras" was The Worst
LP in the history of CCR´s career. That proclamation became a "mental breakdown" for John Fogerty.
July. . ."Sweet Hitch-hiker/Door to Door" released as a single. Beginning of major U.S. tour.
September (1st). . .Start of the Second European Tour.
The Opening concert was in Manchester (GB).
1972
February. . .CCR tours Australia and Japan.
March. . ."Someday Never Comes/Tearin' Up the Country" released as a single.
July. . .Creedence Clearwater Revival starts the breaking-up procedure. When John Fogerty saw the
sales figures of the "Mardi Gras" LP, he told the rest of the members he have had enough, and went.
October. . .CCR disbands.
Today, you can buy almost every CCR recording on CD. The collections Chronicle
- vol. 1 & 2 are still high
on the sales charts! The CCR music will never die in our hearts!
