Clinton Wilson

Clinton Wilson and Mary Ann Miller (b. 04/08/1814, d. 02/14/1871) were married on August 12, 1830. All of their children were born in Wayne County, OH. Their family:

NOTE:   The above dates came from Amariah Wilson's writings (he did not mention the twins). I have subsequently obtained more precise (but not necessarily accurate) dates. I have forgotten from where I got some of them but here they are:

  • Shannon and Catherine (b. 09/14/1831, d. 04/28/1832)
  • Thomas J. Wilson (b. 05/25/1833)
  • Catherine Wilson (b. 1834)
  • Jacob Wilson (b. 08/11/1835, d. 03/15/1863)
  • Nancy Jane Wilson (b. 1838, m. John R. Boon 04/12/1864, d. 1907 - 1909)
  • Shannon Wilson (b. 01/10/1840, d. 02/22/1863)
  • Isabelle Wilson (b. 08/16/1841, m. Martin M. Bucher 09/30/1859, d. 01/07/1914)
  • Elzy Wilson (b. 08/08/1843, d. 11/08/1915, buried at Wilson Cemetery, IA)
        • m. Maria Kaufman (b. 08/20/1850, d. 1917) on 02/02/1869
            · George Clinton Wilson (b. 1870, d. 08/18/1898 railroad accident at Marne, Cass County, IA)
  • William Perry Wilson (b. 1846)

According to burial records at Blachleysville Cemetery, OH, twins Shannon and Catherine not only were born on the same day but also died together on the same day. Following the custom in those days, they gave their names to later children. It was the second Shannon that joined Company E, 120th Infantry Regiment of Ohio Volunteers, in 1862, with his brother Jacob. They participated in the assault and capture of Fort Hindman, Arkansas Post. For his actions Shannon was given a promotion. Shortly after their regiment moved to Young's Point, LA, both of them died of disease. Extracts of military records indicate that Jacob was aboard the hospital boat "Nashville" at the time of his death. Their regiment later fought at Vicksburg, MS.
