Our Transportation Solution
After several years of looking into what was available on the market to transport myself with a scooter or electric wheelchair, that might accomodate another friend using equipment and groceries etc. I resented the market place trying to force me into buying a mini van of any kind. My instincts kept telling me it would never really suit my needs.
After Sylvia moved here, we searched for what we felt would fill the bill. We looked at everything from buses that could be modified to all sorts of vans. Nothing we saw really felt right. Then one day when we were at Adaptive Driving Solutions, Inc., we saw a police van with a lift in for service. we tested it out. I knew immediately that this was what I had been looking for.
The truck is kept in a garage when not in use so it is not exposed to the eliments too much. We keep the mechanism covered with a tarp held on with bungie cords. This protects it from the dust or possible rain we might get caught in.
The reason I finally felt I had found a piece of equipment I felt safe on, was because this lift is several inches longer than any other. Using a scooter and getting onto something that only has an inch or two leway is very disconcerting when it is taking you up in the air.
There's plenty of room in the rear seat for groceries etc., and when we need more space for things like large bags of dog food, we simply have them placed behind the scooters. The truck is a Ford F150. We love the freedom this setup has afforded us.
